Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

From the entire history of the Premiership (since the 1992 / 3 season) irrespective of club or achievements

    - needs to have made at least 40 league appearances since the inception of the premiership;

    - needs to have experience at playing as a right midfielder or left back in a traditional 4 - 4 - 2 formation (so no wing backs / full backs);

Dig deep please! I am aware of all of the obvious names and they happen to be no good to me. I know it's a weird topic for a thread, and for anyone who needs a reason to fire out a bunch of names it relates to the below link and these are the remaining positions I have yet to fill:

    http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/showthread.php?t=202158

Most of the good players in these positions have been taken so I need a few diamonds in the rough. Thanks in advance. Gogogogogo! :)

They'll be slotting into the following team:

    Shay Given

    Rob Jones---Marcel Desailly----Jonathan Woodgate
    X

    X
    Paul Ince
    Jamie Redknapp
    Youri Djorkaeff

    Thierry Henry
    Robbie Keane

Ok here's an initial list off the top of my head. Some of the right midfielders might be taken on the left though -

    Right Midfield -

    Trevor Sinclair
    Joe Cole
    Stuart Ripley
    Ray Houghton
    Gus Poyet
    Eirik Bakke
    Benito Carbone
    Ruel Fox
    David Ginola
    Chris Waddle
    Eyal Berkovic
    Darius Vassell
    Oyvind Leonhardsen
    Mario Stanic

    Left Back -

    Celestine Babayaro
    Steve Staunton
    Andy Hinchcliffe
    Tony Dorigo
    Francis Benali
    John Beresford
    Gareth Barry
    Michael Gray

    Plenty more out there too.

You are a legend Xavi!! Cheers man, great knowledge. I've marked those already taken for other positions.

Had completely forgotten about pacy Hinchcliffe and Bakke the athlete. If other people have other ideas I'm all ears!

For left-back, look no further than Stig Inge Bjørnebye

As a Liverpool fan the two names I was thinking of was Bjornebye and McAteer for the respective positions. However, I already have Rob Jones, Redknapp and Ince from that era - and I don't think I can justify having any more players from the one team that was widely considered as a disappointment in terms of trophies won.

Additionally, was Hinchcliffe not a better all round player?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,909 ✭✭✭✭Xavi6

Hinchcliffe was quality when he played for City (always be a legend for his goal in the 5-1 derby win of 1989). Great left peg and dead ball specialist. IMO was unlucky not to win more England caps.

If you're still struggling then try this website -

    www.footballsquads.com

Has every player that has played in the Prem.

Lloyd wasn't one of the criteria that the player had to be in his prime? Youri Djorkaeff was hardly in his prime. And Rednapp is the most blatant Liverpool fanboying :P Cool thing though, trust you that it was on 2+2.

    R.M
    Ashley Young
    Tony Daley

    L.B
    Irwin

No. In fact the criteria is that you have to assess the player on the basis of their ability during the time they spent in the premiership or on their best five seasons iyo in the case of players with very lengthy premiership careers.

Therefore, for the purposes of the draft Davids and Djorkaeff should be considered good players worthy of later round picks rather than top class international stars; and you would prolly want Sheringham when he was at Notts Forest etc, etc.

So I took Djorkaeff in the 9th round understanding that I get the 63 prem games he played when he was in his swansong. He was still pretty good most of the time during that period though imo.

I did a lengthy write up of Redknapp. I get to take the five seasons where he played the most games. And when he played he was a better version of Xabi Alonso imo. He played the vast bulk of his games before he was 27 and spent his prime on the treatment table / at spurs so I think it is easy to forget how good he was / how great he could have been.

    And yeah, 2 + 2 is teh awesome! ;)

    right mid

    le tissier maybe..
    bowyer
    dyer
    stelios

    left back

    ziege
    gareth barry
jolean lescott(shocked he is not taken, best defender pointswise in the premier league in fantasy footie past two seasons!!!)

these just spring to mind. how does this all work? when ye have picked the teams what happens next?

can anyone (OP?) explain how the idea actually works? Once you have picked your team and manager.... then what? Is there an actual fantasy football-like football manager game played, or does it just end with a pissing contest over whose team is best?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,563 ✭✭✭kinaldo

Rob Lee was an engine room box to box center midfielder, not a right sided one.

Philippe Albert was a cb or a sweeper but never a left back.

I haven't fully read this thread so I'll just limit my response to that for the moment.

Pepe already tried something like it before. link
It didn't really take off though cos everyone kept going offline and such. He then did a unique bidder type game which worked fairly well

    Gabi Heinze for LB

There are two threads, one for the picks and another for discussion and argument over the merit of the picks. When each person picks their last player in the picks thread they have to do one final post in which they summarize their draft; explain what their tactics would be; why their team would work best, etc. When everyone has done that you can lock the pick thread and the pissing contests / polls can appear elsewhere!!

If people want to do this I could put up the threads and overlook the process. Patience is key. Sometimes 36 hrs can go between picks but if people log on here once or so a day we can get through it. When I was away for a few days I pm'd some picks to someone else. It would take a couple of months but we'd get through it.

I'm surprised at that. The one on 2+2 has worked fairly well and most people have taken the time to add in pics and a write up along with their selections which makes the whole thing seem tidier. Most of the contributers are yanks too!! :)

They have a 250 post beast of an NBA draft thread going at the same time which has generated nearly 14k posts of separate discussion thus far!! Crazy Americans. Anyway, I'm off to take their money at the poker table but if there looks like there would be solid interest in this I'll stick up a preliminary thread when I get home tonight (my time).

And thanks to those who put out some names of players. Great help folks!! :)

Did Ruud Gullit play right mid for Chelsea?

Jolean Lescott+1 for left back. solid defender, score loads of goals, England interantional. Considering some of the muck players others have picked, he will be a great addition.

    Christian Zeige for left full.

Kieren Dyer for Right Mid are probably the best of whats left.
