It's 20 years this month that Glitter attempted an earlier comeback by jumping on the Doctorin' The Tardis hit because it sampled one of his old tunes.

...and yet, this mofo wrote Rock and Roll Part 2, so the new album might not be that bad :pac:

Interesting topic though, do ones personal sins affect your opinions on their art?

/goes off to make new thread on that question...

What a tune though. I was at a Connacht Rugby game last year where it was played over the PA as the teams warmed up.

Would have been a bit more apt for the underage players playing demo matches at half time though...

Put this in context- Pete Townshend (Guitarist with 'The Who') was caught with kid porn on his computer, and he's still seen as a hero; the who played Glasto after this event and nobody said anything about it. Fair enough, he was never caught red-handed (unlike Glitter), but I reckon if Glitter had been more of a 'serious' rock star (rather than the more pop-star type of singer he was) he wouldn't be getting nearly the amount of attention.

Bill Wyman of the Stones married a 14 year old and we all know about Mickael Jackson- its becoming the norm unfortunatley.

Didn't Chuck Berry marry his 15 year old cousin ? (it could be someone else I'm thinking of-classic 50's guitarist).

One last thing - R. Kelly.

I'm not defending Townshend, but there is no comparison. He accessed a site he shouldn't have, and after a four month investigation was given a warning.

Glitter, on the other hand was found guilty of having possession of child pornography, and of committing obscene acts with minors (originally charged with rape of under-aged girls). It's not about the seriousness of the artist, but the seriousness of the crimes.

It was the guy who did great balls of fire that married his 13 year ols cousin, Bill Haley maybe? And in fairness to R. Kelly, he was proven innocent

==>I agree that what Glitter did was more serious than what Townshend- I just wanted to make the point that Glitter isn't on his own when it comes to these types of crimes.

==>True, he was proven innocent- although considering what happened in the trials of Jackson and O.J. I am slightly skeptical about the American Justice system in general when it comes to these matters. However, a court of Law is as far as anyone can go to prove their innocence.

==>Thats who it was! I'm annoyed I didn't get that right 'cos I saw the b-movie biopic on his life a while back (it was on tv3 I think), it was a surprisingly funny and well made film- if I can find the name of it I'll post it, well worth a watch.
