It really depends on the crime comitted. I would continue listening to a band/artist if they were drug users for example, its up to them if they want to act like an idiot and risk losing their talent all together. I happen to love Amy Winehouse's music, i think she has a beautiful voice. The fact that shes destroying herself just saddens me, rather than puts me off her music. However, these artists ARE promoting a life of drug and alcohol abuse, so its a tough question really.

But when it comes to child abuse, molestation and pornography, i would DEFINATELY stop listening to their music. And murder or rape. No matter how good the music may be, i would feel horrible listening to it.

Like i said, depends on the severity of the crime.

We tend to idolize musicians, we like to think they are nice/cool people. So when one of them is a molester we can hardly do this anymore. Bill Clinton got into a lot of trouble over sexual shenanigans, did that have anything to do with his job, running a country etc? Probably not, apart from randomly bombing Iraq, but the Americans made such a big deal out of it because for them the president has to be a noble figurehead.

We put ourselves out there in the public sphere and express who we are through our actions. So while a good song will be appreciated as such in an abstract sense, I think as people we tend to judge that in relation to the person and if something heavily compromises their character, then we may stop listening to their music, regardless of whether it is good or not, because we perceive it to be the self expression of someone who is fundamentally evil.

    :D Haha!! Class.

I'm sorry, I'm like a broken record on this forum now, but Shaun Ryder is a genius, he's done alot of bad things, been arrested countless amount of times and everybody know him as one of the most drugged up musicians in the last 20 something years (bar a few metal guys like the lads from Motley Crue). But I'm fasinated by him, how he's survived and how he achieved great song writing abilities in his state at the time, and his rehabilitation and revivel. Plus his law suit with his Black Grape managers. The mans gotta be respected, and if you don't see the same way, the you're not educated enough on the subject.

I'd go in the opposite direction in this thread...what if your fave artists does good things, my example being bruce springsteen. always supported the underpriviliged eg donates portion of ticket sales to charitys, supported vietnam vets etc etc. to me this makes me like him even more as an artist and person
