    15 or so.

POP Workshops dates are now advertised in bi-monthly AT magazine and in monthly e-newsletter.
Can we subscribe to monthly e-newsletter?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 33 Membership@CIAT

The e-newsletter is form members only. If you are a member you will receive it, assuming we have your up to date email address.

I am looking to arrange a POP Workshop in Irleand in the next couple of months.... I would appreciate feedback on where best to hold this event?
Ps it will need to be within easy reach of an airport that fly's from London City or London Gatwick.

    Hi
I am a new member here and just about to send off my forms to the CIAT for membership and pop records. Firstly, I'd like to suggest the following hotel:
http://www.citynorthhotel.com/ its about 25mins away from the airport...Secondly, I've completed a FETAC Level 6 award for new and existing BER's, would/can CIAT take this qualification or study into account when mapping?? Thanks in advance...

Sorry what does BER's stand for?

Chances are you will need to map what was covered in the course aganist our POP Record requirements.

    Thanks for the hotel recommendation.

BER...is our building energy rating, see http://www.sei.ie/Your_Building/BER/BER_FAQ/FAQ_BER/General/BER_what_is_it_.html

Would it be possible (when I'm a member) to make contact with MCIAT members here in Ireland (117 in total, I think) for support and/or advise with POP Records? Perhaps there is a CIAT main contact here that also offers support? Thanks again...

Yes we can put you in contact with the Republic of Ireland CIAT centre.

Can the CIAT post the Republic of Ireland CIAT centre here. It would certainly help the Technician community here in Ireland to have a central point/ place to focus on.

Thanks again, to all at the CIAT for responding to queries.

If Dublin was to be the choosen city, then consider Bewleys Hotel, Malahide Road, as it runs a shuttle bus to the airport (think its free) and has ample parking which is very competitively priced. €8 per day.

Its visible from the M50 so its easy to find!

Any facility near Dublin airport would be suitable for both north and south of Ireland i think. Cork or limerick would suit the south but not those north of athlone. Belfast or Derry would suit the north of the country but not those south of nenagh.
Here are some i found but if you google Conference facilities near Dublin airport there are many which would cater for most size events.

    :D

Ballybofey is perfectly located for touring Donegal and the North West of Ireland. This unspoilt region is only 3 hours from Dublin and less than two from Belfast

Just 3 hours from Dublin and less than two from Belfast (by helicopter)

    Try this.
    http://www.booking.com/hotel/ie/towerhotelwaterford.html?aid=311076;label=hotel-218694-ie-AAd_Rd71Mf3QE7au7HQK0wS752998224;ws=&gclid=COK8-cSj7ZgCFZSB3godQzPc0w

10 minutes from Waterford Airport. And Waterford Airport is just 20 mins from Dublin or Galway Airports, 30 mins from Belfast Airport.

See, all one close happy family..:D

    James (CIAT)
This is good news...perhaps those (like me) who are planning this route to MCIAT could start a study/help group of our own??
Are there any more examples of the POP records available to view James?
    Kind Regards...

I have some TCIAT examples with knowledge and performance sections completed.

However I am waiting for the member to remove all confidential information from the evidence before I can upload them on to CIAT website.

Well done, CIAT. It would be helpful if you could post up the benefits for members of the CIAT. What can a potential applicant look forward to if they get through the process and become full members? How will the CIAT assist a practicing technician here in Ireland? What are the benefits for the technician, to encourage them to start applying in order to increase numbers, in order to create a LOUDER voice that may be listened to?

That all looks positive, similar actually to how the RIAI represents Architects.

Are the contract administration forms compatible to the Irish situation???

You would need to ask the Practice Department re: Contract Forms. Practice@ciat.org.uk

Is the chartered status and desination recognised in Ireland? Where are the CIAT at in relation to recognition under the Building Control Bill?

This is not my area of expertise. Please email practice@ciat.org.uk who would be better placed to answer you query.

Ask a question at 9:19am and get a positive reply within 15mins (Have I died and gone to Heaven?:D )

Today is day no. 15 of trying to contact the L.A Engineer who is 2 miles away!

There is no subsitute for professionalism and its great to see it:)

Can the CIAT confirm in what countries MCIAT is recognised as a standard of professionalism for an Architectural Technologist?

Obviously England, Northern Ireland, Hong Kong, Republic of Ireland (in progress) etc. What other countries recognise MCIAT???

    Hi Pseudo-Tech

I am currently working on recognition of the discipline of Architectural Technology and CIAT's members, as well as encouraging Architectural Technology programmes at educational establishments to become accredited against our recognised standards. We now have 29 accredited universities UK-wide and 2 approved establishments in HK. I have been approached by professional bodies in Canada, Denmark and Italy to work together on mutual recognition of members. Other countries are in the pipeline. There are currently no formal agreements with regard to recognition overseas although this is an important activity which CIAT is actively pursuing.

I have spoken to the Practice Dept. regarding the query about Building Control and recognition of Architectural Technologists. Please refer to Building Control Act 2007 (Number 21), Section 18, (sub-section 4) page 26 "the use by a person of the words...architectural technician, architectural technologist...to describe himself or herself does not, in and of itself, constitute a contravention of subsection 1."

    Tara
