Can't login after latest Leopard Update

I installed the latest update for Leopard the other day. When I turned on my G4 I was asked for my password, which I entered correctly, but it keeps asking me again for my password. I tried to boot from the installation disc, but that won't work either. Any suggestions?

    Why? What happens?

Nothing ... it keeps going to the start up screen asking me for my password. I was hoping to boot from the disc, but I'm not given that option

I meant when you booted from the install cd. To boot from it you need to hold c as the machine starts up. Then use the Reset Password utility. Should be in the Installer menu.

I'll try that when I get home, this evening and let you know how it goes. Thanks.

I got into the Utilities and:-
    1. ran the First Aid ... all ok :)
    2. Reset the password ... again, all ok :)
I rebooted, came to the login screen, entered password ... password accepted, then back to login screen again

I rebooted holding down c ... and the login screen appeared

I've tried a few times now with No Joy!

You haven't got the firmware password set up, have you? Might explain why holding c doesn't work sometimes.

Try holding option at start-up, it should let you choose your startup disk.

Apple seem to recommend you do an archive and install, see here.

After a few attempts I got in and did an Archive / Reinstall. Seems to be working now. Thanks for your help Sad.
