The Hyundai is a ball of **** don't waste your money...

what kind of car would you like, what's your budget...

here's a few bargin motors you might be able to pick up at the right money with a little bit of haggling...

99 Nissan Almear (Nissan are a good reliable car like toyota!!)
    http://www.carzone.ie/used-cars/Nissan/Almera/1.4-GX/1104752/

96 VW Golf - This looks like a minter;)
    http://www.carzone.ie/used-cars/Volkswagen/Golf/car/1113161/

99 Peugot 306 - This is my favourite car, good year, good colour, half leather, cd player, nct 04/09 - It's on offer for €1500 i'd say go up with a grand in your pocket and you'll drive it away......

    Buy the 306!!

thanks drunkmonkey. liking the golf. budget is around 1500 to 2000. something around 1.2-1.4 hatchback i suppose so you got it spot on with your selections. pretty low mileage on that golf too.

steer well clear. with such a depressed car market out there at the moment you can find an awful lot better qaulity cars than that

From Adverts: HONDA CIVIC 96 FOR SALE
    1300 Euro http://www.adverts.ie/showproduct.php?product=61046&cat=2

Looks nice. Not sure if 1.6 would suit you? ad banner says '98, but pic shows 96 reg. It's a H/B too!

    Not your ornery onager

Top Gear rated the Accent as the worst car on sale. I wouldn't go near it. ESPECIALLY for €1700. It's not worth half it. There are so many better cars there for that kinda money.

    Agree with the German!!!!

The 306 looks like one of the best bets on carzone, the golf has low milage but it's that little bit older and it's very plain, at least you get the few luxiries with the 306 and parts are plentifull and cheap....

I recently paid €750 for a '95 Escort with 15 months NCT on it and 3 months tax.

A far better deal than a poxy Hyundai with a nearly out-of-date NCT. OP, shop around, there is far better deals out there.

Absolute rubbish car, it would be more fun driving a Lada

You've got to be joking - 306's are notorious for ECU problems especially ones that age. Will end up costing twice what you paid for it. Steer clear (pardon the pun!)

Earlier 306's were awful. Research them.

What ever happened to those piles of dung? I remember in the late 80's there was a lot of the sh1theaps around?

+1. I'd sooner drive to Galway in a Fiesta than down to the shops in that Accent.

While the Accent is slow/boring etc it's also reliable. Tho I'd say you'd do better than that - a mate recently bought a 00 (newer shape), auto, 99k on clock for €1300. It's arguably more reliable than a Ford, Peugeot or VW.

My money would be on an Almera. Simple, cheap, reliable A-B motoring. Plenty around so plenty to chose from, and cheap.

Anything Nissan, Toyota, Honda, you won't go wrong !

Ohhh and I had a loan of an accent for 2 days, I named it the accident because it was really and truly the biggest ball of scrap I ever drove, and i've driven a Daewoo Matiz !

They died along with communism in early 90's. Their making new models called the Lada Kalina now. Imagine......

If you are going to buy a cheap run around, buy one with lots of NCT on the window... Its worth about €500 tops.
