Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Illegal eviction

Assume a (residential) tenant has been illegally evicted e.g. there are lots of hotheaded posts from landlords on the accommodation forum talking about "changing locks" etc. I know the tenant can take a case to the PRTB and will probably win substantial damages going on previous examples.

My question is what limits the amount of damages the tenant can receive from the PRTB? Can they on day 1 book themselves into the Shelbourne and dine on lobster for breakfast and dinner until the PRTB decides their case? Or is there some "reasonable expenses" type test?

There is a general obligation to minimise one's losses and to act reasonably.

The Shelbourne would only be allowed (a) temporarily until you find more suitable accommodation (b) if it was comparable to the original property. If you are kicked out of a miserable bed-sit in Rathmines that you originally thought suited your needs, then I suggest Days Hotel or a guest house, not the Shelbourne.
