Hey, I'm studying computer systems in UL. First year over now and got good enough results.

Just saw that i would need a 2.1 to do a masters course or a bare min 2.2.
Just wonering about degree classifications.... 2.1, 2.2... pass etc

I am totally clueless about them... How do they map to a students QCA?
Does this vary from universities around the country?

Could someone help me out... Thanks

Degree class and QCA beside them.

    1st class honours - 3.40
    2:1 - 3.00
    2:2 - 2.60
    Third class honours - 2.00

If you achieve a 2:1 from UL and you want to do a Masters in UCD for example then your 2:1 from UL will meet the entry requirements (if the entry requirements are for a 2:1).

All the info is in the academic handbook. You should have gotten one at the start of first year. It's also available on the UL website.

Did they fall another .05 last year?
I think it became 3.35 for a 1st class and so on? Or maybe thats just a discretionary area for the examination board for final degree awards?
