dardevle, please don't use text speak on boards, it is HIGHLY frowned upon.

You have a full keyboard at your disposal when posting via computer, there's no excuse for not using it :)

Basically I think it got raided too many times - the commitee seemed to blame the guy who was running it and I think there was a lot of other stuff surrounding it.

i remember the first time i was there for a raid. ah... the memories

I kinda miss the bomb at the end of O'Connells Street.
It used to be just outside DNG on the corner there across from the Post Office.
It was the Clerys clock of Sligo.
Back when we had no mobiles.
You'd always arrange to meet someone by the bomb at a given time.

In fairness you wouldn't actually know it was closed unless you went to call in!

I wonder will they reopen elsewhere!?

Does anyone remember the cafe and Bar in what is now Tesco fruit and veg section? The entrance was in the same place as the entrance is now. Was really dark place. Very vague memories but can remember being strung out from stealing slurps of parent's coffee (in the days when coffee was a luxury):)

Think it was called The Blackrock. It was very dark alright, remember going in there with my Mum for the coffee after the shopping.

    It was called the Ballymote

It was a very popular restaurant. It would have been the embassy rooms of the day and lots of family functions would have been held there.

    wow the memories

the steps at the front of the gaiety! sneaking into screen 2,

the cellar bar & restaurant - used to do serious salad rolls, used to land in at lunchtime - my poor father - here this one is again - did you not get a packed lunch??

the Ballymote - had booth seats where could fit a good few people in it, had a long counter at the end

burger king - miss a lot and my son loved the kids meals with the toys

the tower hotel - cajun chicken roll and chips

the journeyman (mchughs) they did great food too

the wimpy - where barton smiths is - used to do the sundaes and ice creams

mollys - was in john street, worked my summers there

    jesus no wonder am overweight!!!

tesco - had a pick n mix down where the cereals are now, that was the original fruit section

when santa used to be in the arcade - and was worth going to see.

miss woods loved browsing in there.

the shop that was around the corner from The bus stop shop that sold apple drops in the big jars - weighed them out

miss the venue in strandhill when the live music out the back - big generator, thin az lizzy, the krew

that's enough i beginning to feel old now

oh 1 more - johnstons used to love being allowed put the money container into the carrier and listen to it being carried off to the office.

Anyone remember "Moby Dick's" on West Gardens? Old fashioned chipper with gorgeous food. I don't remember when it closed. Probably nearly 25 years ago.

I've been racking my brains trying to remember the name of it since this thread began! For years after it closed you could still smell the vinegar when you walked by!

Hayleys - I'd forgotten about that place
Gullivers - with the crayons for kids to colour

The restaurant where the Arc is now - was owned by the same people as Harry's Bar back in the day.

Aggies Sweet Shop (aka McDonaghs) it used to be opposite Envy

the arc bar was owned by the monaghans and it was called the Bon Chere - remember having my confirmation meal there!!

savoy cinema - dont remember it open but my mum was on about it.

used to be a restaurant over Blackrock

the "bomb" at the bottom of oconnell street - wonder what was done with that, is it just sitting in a council yard somewhere?

should bring it back into oconnell street now
