My car (99 focus) broke down in dublin a bit back had it towed south where i live and is currently rusting in the garage apparently the timing belt was off and the pistons were firing wrong and the engine is now scrap so i need to source a new engine but have had no luck. i called ford and they say they can only order a brand new engine and fit that and make sure the gear box, timing belt etc are all upto scratch the guy threw at guess at around 2000 euro ....my price range is around 1000

anyone know where i could source a decent second hand engine so my mechanic can fit it? and anyone else have a car with a different engine to the original, any issues, problems?? i need help lads!!

I have a 16 valve punto and mine over heated, i got a new engine in duleek scrapyard with 18k miles on it for 400 quid then got a mechanic in finglas to fit it for about 600 quid. there's also a breakers on the nass road called Duffy bro's and they sell engines for about 600. You'll get both numbers in the phone book or on 11811. the mechanic i used is called Alex, polish guy. 0863209975

For me he literally just put the engine in and got it all runnin, i went to my own mechanic then and got it fully serviced! Hopefully that helps ya, let me know how you get on

cheers I appreciate it. the only problem i have is im in waterford so my mechanic says he will go up and collect the engine but thats gonna cost me a bit more. he has rung around locally and cant get an engine locally which is strange since the focus is a fairly common car but if it comes down to it ill go further afield...did you pass an nct or is there taxing issues with having a new engine put in?

Theres a place called IVI engines in Dublin, they specialise in jap engines but will do any model really. I dunno what they are like or how good they are but they seem to have engines readily available if you wanted it done quick.
    No harm in asking them
