€5k (ish) limit 2nd car

Looking for suggestions. Baby on the way soon, and our one car arrangement will be untenable.
Simple question - if you had €5k (ish) to spend what would you spend it on?

Prefer to stay at €5k but could maybe push to €6k if the car was right.

Don't want to constantly have to do a lot of work on it, and don't want to get stung with nasty insurance / tax / petrol bills.

All suggestions greatly appreciated.

(just for clarification the new car will be mostly just for me getting to and from work - the baby will mostly be shipped around with the mother in the current car).

Nissan Almera. You'll die of dullness but its safe and practical and reliable and zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Honda Civic 1.4. Bulletproof so won't need repairs, and it also doesn't drink petrol

But I'm at a huge disadvantage as I've already stated my budget.

Always liked the Civic, was looking at a 2nd hand Almera early this year - boring yes - I will agree. But worth considering. 323 / Lancer / Corolla - lots of big mileage on them fellas.

Thanks for the suggestions - anything out of the mid-size family car range? We already have an 08 Astra which ticks most of the boxes for those needs.

Interesting. Anyone driven the Panda or C1?

How do they fare?

Would I imagine be 90% of the time just me, so a smaller car makes sense...
