Hi, I need some advice. I have a block built outbuilding that needs external plaster/rendering.

I've never done this before so total newbie.

The outbuilding is being used as an office so it is watertight but only single skin block. Not really any damp patches but the block is like a sponge so I guess problems will come eventually.

What is the best and easiest way to proceed? Will it help protect the building from damp?

Looking at new houses, I see the professional do two coats. Is this necessary?
Would it be sufficient just to mix up 1 part cement, 3 part sand and just throw it on? What about that plasterizer add in?

I'm not fussy about the finish. Rustic is good. What sort of sand? Someone mentioned sharp sand?

    Help

Apply 2 coats, first a scratch mixed at 3 sand 1 cement with a good quality waterproofer comes in 5 litre jars. You should wet the wall before you start and apply a generous coat level it off and scratch this gives a key for your finish coat.
After it cures maybe the next day apply a finish coat mixed at 4:1 with a little waterproofer to make it more useable,as you apply the finish coat rule it off to make it staight so it is easier to float after you float sponge it with a rinsed out sponge in a circular motion.
    Hope this helps.
