Dunnes have not actually pulled out as of yet, they have decided to wait until the New Year to make a decision on whether they will indeed open or not. It is rumoured that they are using this to delay making a decision because they are aware that Tesco are waiting in the wings to jump in if they (Dunnes) pull out.

Dunnes are waiting on the outcome of Tesco'c planning application on the Ballybeg link road. They feel if they get the go ahead here they wont open in ferrybank and then they(Dunnes) can pull out and know that Tesco wont jump in.

Pennys, another store rumoured to be going in to Ferrybank, now look like they are going out beside B&Q for a 12 month period while their store in the city centre is been redeveloped.

EuroSpar, whom were the anchor tenants in Abbeygate have however pulled out of that development.

The dunnes story has come from an employee of Dunnes store who was suppose to been transferred over to the ferrybank store.

Dunnes are acting the magot. It looks like they pull the rug out of the development in Tramore also (not that im bothered, never was a fan of that shop). There is a good chance Tesco might replace Dunnes, its never stopped them opening up more stores before.

Did Penneys get permission to re-develop?

Yeah, An Bord Pleanala decided in their favour in April

Also take a look at these ones that have been with or still are in the hand of bordpleanala and see if you can find what they all have in common, all two pages full;)

It might look quite on the outside but that could simple mean that the inside is being fitted out etc.

Dunnes have had some odd business practices in the past and this seems to be another one..

Will not help that new shopping centre if they do pull out. In this economic climate, a large chain store will be slow to commit to something that size as an anchor tennant..
