Rain just arrived here, very light and undramatic. Darker clouds sliding to the west and southwest and missing here. Have to admit I am looking forward to winter more and more, at least the weather is more exciting (last winter excluded of course).

    16.3c
    69%rh
1008.7 mb falling much too slowly.

I'm with you Paddy, crap summers are nowhere near as exciting as crap winters!!
At least we always get hail, rain, sleet , snow, frost and gales in crappy winters!
This "summer" is just crapola boring, no thunderstorms, no heat, no decent rainfall (here) so far...roll on winter.

Anyhow, its clear that my station has been massively under recording recently, the drizzle outside wouldn't have even registered before I cleaned it but is recording precip now.

And a little east though only 3.8mm so far.

Agree that the Davis rain gauges (and I assume other makes) need regular servicing and in particular checking the level. If the gauge is slightly off level, it may under record substantially.

I had an over recording issue for a bit because of mud in the little buckets. There was some dust in some of the heavy rain recently from southern origin and this had solidified in the tipping bucket, and since a tip occurs by weight and not volume, it was tipping too soon.

Rain rate up to 5mm/hr here now, thats decent moderate rain.
    4.2mm so far.

Check my tipping buckets and gauge myself regulary and actually clear this past while due to all the rain washing dirt and grit out. I find after a prolonged dry spell the dirt will solidify in the buckets with MM sum up being true.

Lashing here now and RR upto 22.6mm/hr.

Second wettest day on record so far with 28.6mm rain and its only 10am , 7.5mm to go to equal the wettest - that may come under threat before the day is out. Great stuff!

40 miles (give or take)north of you and the sun is splitting the trees here.

    17.5C
    DP 12C
    1001.8mb
    Wind gusty easterly

Very little sun here, only rare glimpses. Mostly light drizzle with occasional heavier bursts of rain.
That stuff to the south east seems very slow moving. Though Mike is probably getting drowned right now.

Its wrapped around the circulation which aint moving too fast. So if your under that blob, more persistent rain can be expected for awhile.

Moderate/heavy rain now 6.2mm/hr, 30mm rain since midnight and I suspect another 10mm given how slow this rain band is moving, there will be bad flooding from this.

Pity I'm not at home at the moment (well actually..no!)
I notice my wd stopped reporting at before 5am with a drenching rain rate of above 50mm/hr yet again.
I can only imagine what sort of rain total there is now going on the radar.
I've sent a comprehensive set of instructions to someone that should be able to get the weather display back up and running again. That will be tonight sometime after 10 or 11 pm I hear :)
It's possible that the broadband connection was lost during the heavy rain and no one would have re booted it.

Haven't seen the likes of it before.
52.6mm , rain finally stopped though.

Caught caught some light stuff, now clouded over generally. Sounds like we've got away with it a bit.
