Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Ah yeah, that's what happened. Not a great strategy unless you're confident of making zero transfers all season :) Actually I never even have 3 players from one team, unless they were playing Derby last season.

I still think it's a bit early to make a team, although I have a provisional made out for the SSF campaign.

The thing is, the 16% who picked him might not be particuarly active players. I'll have a look at it closer to the end. The thing is though, Ronaldo is a must for any team, even at that price.
Only if he's playing though. Pointless having him in your team at the beginning of the season if he's injured.

But I do agree that he's definitely a must even at the price, Henry was the same price and you really couldn't compete unless you had him in your team, same as Ronaldo last year. However, their price generally doesn't drop too much, even if they are injured for a long period so there's no point waiting for it to drop and then buy him in at a bargain price.

Bugger, Brown out- Jamie Carra in- anyone else think he's a bargain at 6.5- thought he'd be 7 with Evra and Ferdinand and that.

    3: Carragher
    4: Ferdinand
    5: O'Brien A
    6: Laursen

16.1% have him picked apparantly- was running at 30% earlier in the week-
I seem to remember a few players who were pretty stagnant for people having them picked and their price dropped anyway last season.

If Carragher is fit,he's a definite starter, where as Brown is'nt with Neville back playing,Neville gave away the penalty today against the Kaizer Chiefs, another example of the donkey he is.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 27,857 ✭✭✭✭Dave!

I think Brown is a good price..... Costs 1 less than Vidic, but only got about 5 less points than him last season. I doubt Ferguson will be too keen to break up United's defence next year, even with Neville back. He won't find it easy to get back into the team with Brown's current/end of last season form. Might wanna wait and see though...

I got rid of him for Laursen though when I realised they're the same price :pac:

    I agree,Brown had a great season,goals/assists,played well in Champions league,Neville would'nt lace his boots.Will Villa get Friedal,as Carson has left ?

Neville (Everton) is listed as a defender but plays in midfield. Was he listed as a defender last year? Can't remember.

I'm in. Joined a couple of weeks ago and have changed my team about 5 or 6 times already. So far I'm not happy with any of the combos but hopefully I'll get the winning team!

As for Ronaldo - way too expensive if you want a balaned team with point-getters in each position. Anyone manage to fit him and Torres in?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 156 ✭✭hughes2558

Youll regret not having ronaldo in even if you have to make cuts in the rest of your team.

Especially when you can just wildcard him in

im in but can anyone tell me if Friedel leaves Blackburn for Villa, will I have to get rid of one of himself, Laursen, Young or Carew

    1: Friedel
    2: Laursen
    3: Scharner
    4: Evra
    5: Jagielka
    6: Young
    7: Gerrard(C)
    8: Kranjcar
    9: Ireland
    10: Carew
    11: Torres

    12: Fulop
    13: N'Zogbia
    14: Parker
    15: Beattie

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,587 ✭✭✭✭Dont be at yourself

I'd say there are better options out there than Carew anyway.

Martins, Bent, Johnson, McCarthy, Walcott and Bendtnar are all the same price or lower.

Martins should get heaps of goals under Keegan's swashbuckling 'tactics'.

With Berbs and Keane supposedly on the way out, Bent should get games at Spurs. If not, he'll be off to the likes of Sunderland and be their big fish in a small pond.

With Santa Cruz looking likely to leave Blackburn, McCarthy is worth a punt to see if he can rediscover his form from last year.

With Adebayour looking likely to leave Arsenal, Walcott/Bendtnar are due to get games. The Arsenal squad is getting smaller and smaller, and if Ade leaves, the pair could fill their boots. They're both clearly rated by Wenger. Good for assists too, and I reckon Bendtnar is a steal at 5.5.

With Bentley gone to Tottenham- who will be taking peno's and set pieces for them, thinking about swapping one of himself and modric.

I think Aaron Lennon is not far behind Bentley, in fact on his day better.....in my opinion. I dont think Ramos rate Lennon though. they shouldnt have forked out so much mulla on Bentley though as good as he is!!

I'm not so sure if what I did is genius or disastorous,
I've got 4 pool players in the team because I bought keane when I made it ages ago,
but I think I can't make any transfers without removing one of them is that right?

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 22,879 Mod ✭✭✭✭Bounty Hunter

well i just had to get rid of one of my Villa players due to Friedel becoming a Villan. Carew gone Boro's Alves partners Torres instead

You have the 4 pool players in your team for the whole season but as soon as you make a transfer you'll have to transfer one of the pool players out. Probably do it around October when they're well and truly out of the title race! :p:pac:

That's a cracking selection. Hamann might be your weak link though I can see that 11 getting a lot of goals.

    Peter Cech

    Alan Hutton
    Ashley Cole
    Paulo Ferreira
    Patrice Evra
    Gael Clichy

    Deano Kiely
    Alves
    Liam Miller

    Hopes....
Van persie stays fit and takes back the penalty taking duties.
Lots of assists from the army of full backs.
switch between ferreira and Bosingwa as they rotate through the season.
With ronaldo out, expect nani to have big impact.
Hope nasri really is all he is cracked up to be.

I'm still changing my team by the day.

Does anyone think Elmander at Bolton is worth a punt? I see he's scored a few in pre-season games and he seems to be playing in a 4-5-1 formation which suggests he'll get a few chances.

    He's priced at 7m.

He doesn't seem to be an out and out striker. You might be better off with going with a proven premier league scorer for that amount such as Ashton or Johnson.

Haven't done my team yet but it's going to have Adebayor, Young and Fabregas for sure.

Put my team in there, The Dubski's

Wasn't in the boards one last year but topped a few leagues I was in.
I'll see how I do against the might of the Soccer thread :)
I have left 3million in the bank, for adjustments before the season starts or if I'm happy, then to buy ronaldo when he's back.
I'll have to see about berba if he moves to united.
Will the prices change before the start of the season??
If he moved I might sell him and make a profit ;)

    My team so far is,
    1: James
    2: Lescott 3: Vidic 4: Meite 5: Dunne
    6: Gerrard 7: Dempsey 8: Downing 9: Davies
    10: Berbatov 11: Tevez

Going to be tough this year....
    Here goes anyways...

    Jugs Wanderers

    Green

    --Hutton----Scharner----Shorey--

    Fabergas--Gerrard--Davies--Pienaar

    ---Torres----Bent----van Persie---

Subs: Al Habsi; Geovanni; Mendy; Clement

Yea i'm expecting Bent to do ok this year. I think he'll score shitloads.

I'm also considering putting Andy Johnson in cause he is going to be Fulhams main striker this year and i think he will put last years poor form behind him.

On another note, how the fcuk do i change my formation to 3 at the back? I seem to have a 4-4-2 going on...
