Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    I keep changing mine :P :

    1: Friedel

    2: Gallas
    3: O'Brien A
    4: Carragher

    5: Fabregas

    7: Modric
    8: Gamst Pedersen

    9: Yakubu
    10: Adebayor (C)

    12: Jaaskelainen
    13: Ricketts

Must have changed my team 5 or 6 times already, heres the latest version.

    Reina

G Johnson, R Ferdinand, Carragher, Clichy

    Ireland, Fabregas, Davies, Jenas

    Van Persie, Keane

    Subs: Green, Butt, Dunne, Kitson

Right, I think I finally have a team I want to put out (subs in italics).

    Goalkeepers

    James -- Gordan

    Defenders

    Vidic--Distin--Carragher--Meite--Hoefkins

    Midfield

    Bentley--Fabregas--Petrov--A.Young--Reo-Coker

    Forward

    Tevez--Bent--Bojinov

I've no doubts there will be some early season tinkering - United miss Gameweek 3, Bojinov and Petrov currently have knocks, whether Neville will stay fit and get his place back from Brown, not to mention the question of whether or not to bring back Ronaldo when he gets fit...but for now I'm relatively happy :)

My team for the Santa Strike Force league (which, in case anyone missed it, you can sign up for here :)) is:

    Goalkeepers

    James--Friedel

    Defenders

    Lescott--Laursen--Dunne--Wheater--Scharner

    Midfield

    Bentley--Petrov--Modric--Young--Arteta

    Forward

    Ashton--Alves--Defoe

    Just completly changed my team

    ..................B.Friedel

    ....G.Johnson...M.Laursen...P.Evra

    S.Ireland..S.Gerrard..N.Kranjcar..A.Young

    ..........A.Alves...F.Torres...V,Bojinov

    Subs: Turnbull, Wheater, Parker, Scharner

anyone know if Bojinov is going to be starting for city at the bigging of the season or is he still not fit enough ?

still not sure wether to play Ireland or Parker either, leaning towards Ireland

very nice team but you should know i dont expect knight to play much this season, Laursen & Davies will/should be Villa's first choice CB's and atm we are supposed to also be looking for cover in CB also, hense the links to Kaboul (though he seems Portsmouth bound).

I had him last year, I thought he did a decent job, or he at least started the season with promise. Maybe that's why I did bad last year. Or maybe it's because I was the only one in my league who refused to buy Ronaldo!:D

OK.....I've completely sacrificed my bench to go for a strong starting XI. I'm hoping it pays off.

They're a solid team, dont concede many and they score a decent few as well. Might not keep Diarra though, im looking at the like of Fulham and Bolton for a decent alternative

I still haven't decided on my team yet. I've spent way too long analysing and tweaking. I honestly must have about thirty different combinations in mind. :o

Wes Brown was in my thoughts but with Gary Neville starting today I now question whether I should have him on board.

I'm probably not going to decide until the very last minute. Decisions, decisions...

Yes and are playing chelsea and man utd for their opening fixtures.

Bent got another brace against Roma- had to bring him in for Modric. His form is too good to ignore.

    1. Howard

    2: Lescott
    3: Carragher
    4: Ferdinand
    5: Laursen
    6: Brown

    7: Fabregas

Yeah he's provided me with a right headache. Carew had been in my thoughts but with Bent's form I'm thinking he's ahead of him.

Yakubu's form in contrast has been poor which is a problem for me as Everton's fixtures had looked very enticing.

I'm really all over the place up front and at the back. I think my keepers and midfield are sorted though thankfully.

    According to Sky sports:
Man city have stated that Corluka is staying at the club and not moving to Spurs.
West Brom have completed the transfer of Meite from Bolton.
Portsmouth confirm that they will conclude the transfer of Kaboul from Spurs on Monday.

They only have Bent and Berbatov so unless they go the lone striker route- I'd expect him to start.

people seem to think that Bent only starts if Berbatov leaves... that may be true if they sign another striker, but as it stands Bent has been starting all the preseason games with Berbatov

Well actually, there's no need to say "in your opinion" it's fact.
Here's last season's stats. and it proves your assumption.

Can someone tell be how to do a table so I can tidy it up please?

    Value Points Avg.
    James PO 6 167 27.83
    Reina LI 6 159 26.50
    Friedel AV 5.5 149 27.09
    Howard EV 5.5 147 26.73
    Green WH 5 144 28.80

    Cech CH 6 120 20.00
    Almunia AR 6 117 19.50
    Carson WB 5 113 22.60

    Lescott EV 7.0 196 28.00
    Ferdinand MU 7.0 171 24.43
    Laursen AV 6.0 163 27.17
    Clichy AR 6.5 146 22.46
    Vidic MU 7.0 145 20.71
    Brown MU 6.0 142 23.67
    Johnson PO 5.5 136 24.73
    Carragher LI 6.5 136 20.92
    Scharner WI 5.0 135 27.00
    Neville 6.0 135 22.50

    Ronaldo MU 14.0 283 20.21
    Fabregas AR 10.0 205 20.50
    Gerrard LI 11.5 200 17.39
    Barry AV 8.5 178 20.94
    Young A AV 8.5 177 20.82
    Bentley TH 8.0 169 21.13
    Downing MI 7.5 166 22.13
    Petrov MC 7.5 153 20.40
    Lampard CH 11.0 149 13.55
    Elano MC 8.5 149 17.53

    Adebayor AR 11.0 200 18.18
    Torres LI 12.0 193 16.08
    Santa Cruz BR 9.0 182 20.22
    Berbatov TH 9.5 177 18.63
    Keane LI 9.0 162 18.00
    Tevez MU 10.0 161 16.10
    Agbonlahor AV 8.0 158 19.75
    Benjani MC 7.0 150 21.43
    Rooney MU 11.0 148 13.45
    Jones SU 7.0 138 19.71

    Added in the goalkeepers too.

So using the top ten of each type of player...

A GK gives an average of 25pts. per million spent
A DF gives an average of 24pts. per million spent
A MF gives an average of 19pts. per million spent
A FW gives an average of 18pts. per million spent

So therefore your best bet is to work out a way to field 11 Goalkeepers.

Player Values flucuate over the season. Isn't the above data a rather simplistic way of looking things? Or those are last season's starting values?

Yeah but it gives you an idea of the points gained per every million spent. You could add in a billion other factors but it's only a game. :pac:

My team for the first weekend.

    Howard
    Evra----Johnson
    Richards
    Bentley--Fabregras---Arteta-Modric
    Yakubu---Bent----Adebayor

    Schwazer/Lauren/Melchiot/Barmby.

Probably gonna end up using the wild card early. Seems like most people are thinking Torres is the man to fill the points gap left by ronaldo.

can anyone explain the wildcard to me, I also cant find any reference to it on the site (prob not looking in the right place though) and will prob need to know if boards.ie fc is going to do as expected and represent the boards league at the top of the overall leaderboard this year.

Normally you are only allowed one transfer per gameweek for free, any transfers after that cost you points.

The wildcard allows you to make as many transfers as you like without costing you any points. You only get one wildcard a season. So it should be used carefully if things are going really bad.
