Question about Samsung DVD recorders

Hi I was wondering if the Samsung DVD recorder is any good in people's experience? Also my TV is a 2 in 1 (TV & Video). It has 3 holes in the side to connect up with a DVD player. When I put the coloured scary leads from my Samsung into the TV it will play the DVD with no problem but I can't seem to get any channels on it…

I have Sky Digital so normally when I flick around TV stations that aren't set to the Sky Digital channel all that comes up is static. Would this be affecting the DVD recorder? Thanks in advance.
