Newbie - What System to Buy - Dummies Guide

    Hi All,

I have the opportunity to buy a new system - only had Sky before - but want to expand into Satellites other than Sky.

Here's what I want - maybe someone would be kind enough to tell me what I need

    I want....

    Sky Platform
Access to range of satellites - have good views of east, south and west sky from house - no obstructions.
Info on what decoders/receivers/cards are requried (legal of course)

So - what dish, receivers etc. do I need?

Sorry for being such a dummy about this - I've looked up lots of sites but none I've found clearly explain it all.

Oh - I'd also need someone to install all this gear too!

Located in Kildare, near enough to Naas.

    Thanks.

    S

    Hi,

This is a good thread to read, similar requirements to what your looking for.

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055208520

I'm going to start doing something similar myself, so some of the equipment you'll need is

80cm or larger dish, which can take a multi-lnb arm. Can then have lnbs pointing to 28" for sky/freesat and then the other lnbs pointing to a variety of other satellites, 13"/19" and others. So you can then feed a single receiver with mutliple signals, or even multiple receivers throughout the house.

A diseqc switch then for switching between the different lnbs, and a decent sat receiver, lots of good info around here on technomates.

Finally, plenty of sat cable and patience :)

I had this sort of system installed by Tony. Now i can access 28E, 13E,19E diseqc switch feeding signal to 3 rooms in the house. Very happy with it.

And before people start going on about advantages of motorizes setup,.. No , it wasn't for me. True, you can get more satellites but you only have one feed. I wanted to be able to watch different channels/satellites in each room. :)
