    Hey ppl,

I have a HP Pavillion dv6500, running vista home premium, it has been working just fine untill today when i updated from AVG 7.5 to AVG 8!

The new AVG installed fine, it opened up and looked real slick, so the first thing I tried to do was update it! So I tried to start my Internet, I use the "O2 mobile Broadband wireless usb thingy, which had also worked just fine till today, but It could not connect because according to the mouse-over text above the task tray icon, it say's..... " The serrvice cannot be started because it is either disabled or has no enabled device with it".

I ran services.msc and tried to start the services but nothing worked, I use windows firewall but that is not the problem..

This really pee'd me off, I have been searching on line using another laptop all day trying to get it sorted, So here I am redface.gif

Am I the only one with this prob? can anyone help?

If not the only thing I can do is use the recovery drive... (yikes!!!)

    Here's hoping..... Chris.smile.gif

Is this avg internet security with a firewall?

No it has no firewall, just anti virus and anti spyware, with phishing filters and e-mail scanner, looks better than the old version, if only it would work!!

there is nothing in the network connection window, just lots of clean white space...

Kick off the installer again , you should get 3 choices :
    Add/Remove bits , Repair Install , Uninstall .

Norton must have got plenty of fanmail over the same problem , they have a tool to remove their stuff : http://www.symantec.com/nrt/

Ditch AVG 8 and download Avira free edition. Works fine on Vista.

Yeah I just tried to repair it again, Im thinking the problem was a virus insde AVG 8, i had to uninstall AVG 7.5 to install the new one, which left me expossed!!!
I think it messed up the internet services etc..

I have avg 8 running on loads of machines with no difficulties. I doubt that AVG is distributing installation files with viruses in them. Much more likely you had some form of software problem on your computer.

I did just that a few weeks ago as I was getting really annoyed
    with AVG.

But christ Avira is even more annoying. Mainly due to the pop ups
advertising itself. The last straw was when I was in the middle of a
game of battlefield 2 and it was minimised with a message from
Avira advertising their "Insert bull**** product here" package.

I currently have no anti virus installed.
