Have been called for my test in Wilton, Cork next week and as have been told there are ten routes in total, five taking a right when you come out of the centre and five taking a left. As i've only done a few of the routes, and not from that side of city, does anyone have any tips or advice on the routes? It would be very appreciated....:P

Just practice in the general area, if there are any unusual junctions etc... be aware of them. The route is less important when you are actually out on your test, if you are well prepared you should be fine, you are gonna have to do all the same suff anyway.

    Good luck...

Testers are not afraid to deviate from routes in certain circumstances. Its important that you try and be calm and ready for anything they will throw at you.
Be sure to practice your three point turn and the reversing around a corner. Drive around the test centre area for a good few hours before the test is taken.
Remember, its your ability to drive that is up to question in the test, not the route you are going to take. Just be calm about it and Im sure it will be fine.

    Hi,

I agree with the other replies that you shouldnt focus too much on knowing the route exactly, things can change on the day and best to just let the tester direct you rather than be anticipating.

However general routes around Wilton are :

    1. Turning left out of the test center, as far as Wilton Roundabout then left. Take the next right (Wilton Ave) after CUH and work around the housing estate in there. Coming back from there via the Curraheen Road/Hawkes Road possibly you may go right off the Bishopstown road into Woodbrook area. Back to test center via same route as you came.

    2. Turning left out of the test center and again as far as Wilton Roundabout but then turn right down Glasheen road. Next right down through Summerstown and make your way to Clashduv road. Turn left off here and up into more residential estates, work through them to eventually exit onto the Pouladuff road. Back to test center via the South Ring - careful of the 50kph limit as you approach the roundabout.

    3. Turning right out of center, then left at the T-Junction. One option is similar area to number 2 above (off Clashduv road) or alternative is to head towards Pearse Road and possibly down to Evergreen Road and back again. Options to come back to the test center can be the way you came(Togher Road) or back via the south ring as per number 2 above.

Best of luck with the test.

    Declan.

With that attitude you are going to make it a lot harder for yourself kiddo!
I know it's a stressful one but keep driving around the area and remember your lessons.
When reversing around the corner, ensure to take it as slow as you like and keep an EAGLE EYE out for pedestrians moving anywhere near you at all. When taking the 3 point turn remember that you know the car and how to do this.
Keep using your mirrors and remember, all you have to do for this test is to demonstrate to an observer that you can drive as well as you know you can.
It is not like the leaving cert because you have control of the car. If you can keep control of the fear of failure, maintain your breathing and don't panic it will be absolutely and totally fine. Just keep the calm breathing exercises going, in through the nose and out through the mouth and remember that you absolutely CAN DRIVE WELL. If you make a little mistake and end up failing, screw it, whats another month or two for a re-test yeah? One of life's little tests, not the be-all and end-all ok?
