Just wanted to mention the Tour de France stage ride from Enniscorthy to Cork on saturday.

It was a fantastic event and really well organised (I'd done the Mount Leinster Challenge also run by Slaney CC so was expecting a good event). Lead cars, motorbike marshall, support cars, broom wagon, ambulence etc. There were marshalls on the main junctions to make sure no one went astray and we had a garda escort through Carrick on Suir, Youghal etc. Sirens and flashing lights - the works!

Apart from the lunch stop there were numerous drink stops with no end of bars and cakes and sambos. The weather was great for 100 miles or so, including a tailwind the whole way, but the last five or six miles we had a downpour of biblical proportions - thunder, forked lightening you name it. The early finishers were in the showers at the finish and so only got a few drops!

The support vans were up and down all day - I punctured a rear wheel and before I had rolled to a stop a guy was running up the road with a spare wheel (better than my own!). changed the wheel, took a note of my number and paced me back up to the group behing his van. There seemed to be spare wheels for anyone who punctured.

I spoke to one of the organisers who were disappointed with the turn out but they were aware of the clash with the ROK but were tied into the date from last year as it formed part of severeral cycling related events taking place to commemorate the tour in Enniscorthy. I see on irish cycling.com that Sean Kelly unveiled a statue there as well.

All in all a great day out and well done to the cycling club.

Good to hear it turned out well. I joined it at Waterford and rode along till Carrick with a couple of my clubmates. We joined in with the quicker group which was clipping along nicely with the tailwind. Slaney organised events are always good, they are a sharp club.

I'm glad it went well, sounds like a really great event! I definately would have done it had it not been on the same day as the ROK.
