Theres a good few martial ats classes around the town (dlofnep might be the man to talk to about those ?)
    Waterford Toastmasters
    Revolution Quiz Night (Mondays ?)
    Revolution Comedy Night (Tuesdays ?)
    Blazing Aces Poker Club
Theres a bunch of photography lads off this forum have regular meetups (cant remember names though, sorry lads !)

Thats all I can think of at the minute anyway. Ill add more as I think of it.

You are city centre location (or relatively close) I assume ?

Get world of war craft for the p.c I guarantee you won't be bothered about where you are in Ireland cause the bloody thing will take over your life and you'll end up more concerned about killing elves and ****e than meeting real people.

Plenty to do if you've a car.

Myself and Roen often head out to the coast/mountains etc for a walk. Unfortunatly, in my own experience, most socialising in Waterford does tend to revolve around the pub. The other thing is though, you don't have to drink :)

Miles upon miles of coastal and river walks, two mountain ranges to climb, hike and camp in and just generally explore. Although almost all of these are greatly enhanced by good weather....which we don't seem to have in good supply at the mo!

The sea is one of our greatest amenities, and probably our most under used too. No end of sport to be had.

Join the tri club. My better half is in it, you don't need to be up training in the rain at 9 in the morning either ! (Although you should if you want to be any good). They do road running during the winter in a beginners league, have swimming classes. At this time of year they go swimming in the sea - all levels catered for. Cycling as well at times taking part in leisure events like the Sean Kelly. You can get involved in it without ever doing a triathlon etc....

Failing that head out to WIT and do an evening course. Theres a load of 10 week courses in all sorts of interesting stuff.

Actually, is there still an arthouse film crowd in Waterford?

Wouldn't mind heading along to it myself.

The film club is on a summer break http://www.waterfordfilmforall.com/

this reminds me of the tv show " why dont you" that was on years ago where every week a different(youth) group from a different town/city hosted the show and spent a half hour giving ideas of things to do instead of watching tv, spot the irony huh.
for anyone who cares the theme song went " why dont you turn off your tv and do something more interesting instead".
could i be more off topic !! just when people sitting at PC's talking about things to do instead of sitting at PC's i thought of that show.
this not a having a go or anything ,just sungod with too much time on his hands now if i only had something better to do :D

Where exactly there's not a whole lot of shopping in Waterford?

There's a Badminton Club. Beginners night is a Wednesday night at about 7.45pm. Bring €2 it's quite at the moment so you'll get plenty of match practise and advise from everyone.

Lots of martial arts classes throughout Waterford. I've met alot of great people over the years through judo & brazilian jiu-jitsu. If you're interested in either, just drop me a line. Generally, any martial arts class is a good way to meet new people.

Alternatively, as already mentioned - try an evening course. I setup a gaeilge night once a week, and it's a good way to meet new people too. (Although it does revolve around the pub!) You're more than welcome to join us anytime there too if it's of interest to you.

Any social or sports club, activities club would be helpful. Think of a hobby of yours, and then try to find a club for it.

Hi everyone thanks for all the replies!!

Yeah I'm waterford city, have a car and a dog, so have been out walking alot but I just feel that I have gotten stuck in a rutt and really need to get out and meet new people!! I'm an out n out blaa but dont know what there is to do.....how screwed up is that!!

the badminton and irish night really appeal to me....(ach níl mo gaeilge ana mháith)....actually it is very bad lol

Where is the badminton club?? Do you need to buy a racket or can you rent them?

    Thanks again everyone :):)

Oh and it's not that I am against going into pubs, I'm just not brave enough to go into a pub on my own and sit at the bar by myself

Well, I know you feel you're stuck in a rut with walking the dog, but there's some great spots out there that you mightn't have found. Get some exploring in there ;)

The Badminton Club is down beside the Franiscan Church can't think of the name of the street, you'll need to bring a racket, if you don't have one don't worry there might be a spare one knocking about. I think you can get a fairly cheep racket in Elvery's for about €15 and they go up from there

Ah, nobody is expected to have good Irish. Don't worry, you wouldn't be the only one. And the whole idea is so people can improve. It's just a laugh. Drop me a line anytime you want to pop along. :)

    John.

There's also squash in Downes, Celtic or Dunhill. Great fun and a great way to keep fit!

There is a Philosophical Society that meets every Monday night at 7.30pm in the Cheshire Homes. There's a historical society as well but I don't know the details.

Waterford Film For All organise film showings for much of the year but don't seem to do much socially and seem to switch off for the summer! I'd be tempted to start a film club myself.

Lady Lane. Walk up the hill at the side of the credit union on Parnell St and its the old Church on the left.

Argos usually have cheap, if probably useless raquets. Also Alfie Hales (Intersport??)

may as well try a bit of everything if you feel like you're stuck in a rut. wouldn't be for me but the irish club is bound to be good fun if dlofnep is involved.
i've heard great things about the badmitton club too, you could try aerobics or fitness classes in the new kingfischer club either.

If you have a dog, thats half the battle over already.. i used to have a dog and i would head off out to mad beaches and up the mountains and stuff just with me and her, but i dont have her anymore so i have to soldier it alone nowadays :( but still a great place to go to clear the head and stuff.. also if you dont like going to the pub alone then just come with me and my mates :) we always adopt strangers to our table whenever we see someone on their own :) your welcome to join us!
