Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Q. I'm looking to hook my ipod upto my current factory model 6000 CD stereo unit in my 2001 Ford Mondeo Zetec.

Are their units I can buy to do this ??????

afaik , Ford have a specific "ford brand" aux connection for the stereo. Should slot into the back of the headunit and possibly through the glove compartment. Its not a standard fitment you can buy in any shop.

alternatively the handiest option is to buy an fm transmitter which can be bought anywhere. simply plug in your ipod and it transmits the ipods music to the radio and you select the particular fm band on the radio headunit. Easy:D

Stay away from itrips or other fm transmitters they are sh*te;). Search for dension , they make a kit for most cars have one myself its the gateway 100 model. You change your stereo to cd changer mode then you can control the ipod through the stereo buttons.

I'm a fan of the Dension Ice link FM. Gateway system is a lot more expensive, I think.

universal fitment, so will work on your car. alternatively, check your Ford dealer to see if they have the part listermint mentioned. Icelink will also charge your ipod

The last model and current model mondeo have an aux conneciton as standard. Look in the glovebox. Look to the rear right and you will see the aux in connection. Plug normal jack into this and the other end to the ipod. Buy cheapest you can find. Just remember to turn the volume/ear protection on the ipod off and it works a treat. Battery life is same as headphone use. The mondeo has the aux connection on the stereo turned off as default. It is a hidden option to turn it on. I think you had to hold menu button down for 3 seconds and then find the option. In the same place as the VID dislplay for the unit. Once activated just press the aux button on the stereo to hear the ipod.

I tried the itrip fm transmitters in my wifes car and they work well all over the country except Dublin, Belfast and Cork. Far too much interference in all of these areas.

all Mondeo models don't have the aux. in from what I remember

My mistake. You are right. The zetec unit had it on the sony units which I had. Not sure if 6000 units on zetec had it. All the current ones have it, which I now have and I have the 6000 unit in current zetec.

I had the sony xplod with bluetooth and aux in in my 01 focus zetec, was absolutely class, the bluetooth brilliant for phone calls, puts call through car speakers.

Tip: turn off fans in dash when on call, you are much clearer to caller this way.

I have the same 6000 CD in my 03 Focus, and I recently fitted a Connects 2 cable that runs from the CD changer port on the back of the stereo.

I had been using an iTrip FM transmitter, but the advantage of the Connects 2 cable is that it charges the iPod, gives you stereo with no interference, and allows me to use the steering wheel (well, stalk beside the steering wheel) controls to go skip forward and backward through the tracks and change playlists.

On my version of the 6000CD, it doesn't display the track name on the head unit, but it does on later models. The song information displays on the iPod, and even when it's locked, it wakes up the screen when you change a track. When you turn off the stereo, the iPod pauses, and resumes playing when the stereo is turned back on, but it will keep charging even when the ignition is turned off, you you'd have to remember to disconnect if you don't want to drain the car battery.

One thing though - I have a new model iPod Touch, and Apple changed the voltage that they charge at, so some older chargers don't work with it, so I needed to get an adapter for the charging function to work. I don't think other iPods need the adapter - just the new Touch and iPhone.

I got it (and the adapter) from here: http://www.dynamicsounds.co.uk/connects-ctafoipod003-ipod-adapter-ford-fiesta-escort-mondeo-focus-p-2254.html

The adapter for the iPod touch can be selected in the blue box if needed. I got the head unit removal keys too, and the whole lot worked out at just over 100 euro delivered. Pricey, but I use the iPod a lot in the car, and was fed up with the iTrip.

Installation was really easy. Use the keys to yank out the head unit, connect up the cable to the port at the back, and run the iPod cable out under the dash. Took about 3 minutes.
