Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hello there,
Planning a 90 day trip across the states. Will be starting in NYC in mid October and would ideally like to be in California for Christmas. Friends and I want to hire an RV and just travel America before going to Canada to work. If anyone has done a trip like this and has any tips on RV rental, places to go, routes to take, money saving etc it would be much appreciated.
    Thanks Kindly
    F.

Ive done a number of road trips in the US of A, and you should have little to worry about. Motel 6 are usually set the lowest rates in town. However after a few nites there you'll be happy for a change, so try Econo Lodge which may be $5-10 extra per room per night, but they usually include basic breakfast (fruit, toast & jams, coffee). Its basic but you can have as much as you want. Stay in a B&B every so often. These can often be a real experience.

    Enroute, try visit:

    Monument Valley, Utah
    Meteor Crater, AZ
    Arches national park, Utah
    Valley de Shelly, AZ
    Death Valley, California
    Rocky Mountain national park, Col
    Yellowstone, South Dakota

One tip would be to keep in eye on the weather. Especially if going across the mid west. The time of year you'll be there is prone to a lot of snow that closes down entire roads or makes driving treacherous.

I've done it before except i went from San Diego across to Florida but we went right across the mid west to make a trip of it. We rented a RV before for a shorter trip but drove in our own SUV on the longer one as renting a RV is expensive. Almost 100 dollars a day with gas.

Stay in motels along main roads. Or sleep in the van or camp. Most national parks provide cheap camping and a lot have good facilities.

thanks for the tips guys.. 3 months on the highways and byways of America will most definitly not be without incident but lets hope it'll be a fun experience nonetheless. much to do and see. I'm hoping to avoid any hurricanes!!!

Well unless you are anywhere near the coast of the Southern states you shouldn't have to worry too much about Hurricanes. And if you are starting in NYC in mid October you should miss the hurricane season by the time you'd get down there.
