Moved to London at 18, but still got money off my parents, so I don't think that counts, but hey,

    best of both worlds FTW.

I'm 21 and am moving out tomorrow. Hurray.
I'll be financially independant-ish, my Mum leant me €500 for the deposit but I intend to pay her back as soon as possible.

Im 24 and live at home, may as well say it as the other stay at homers are suspiciously quiet.

Could have something to do with the fact it's a thread targetted at those who've actually moved out?

I'm 18 and I'm moving out for the first time in September. Commuted for my first year of college and hated it, so I've a deposit on a flat for the coming year.
I'm paying my own rent, so I'll be semi-financially independent (Will go back home for weekends, so the parents can feed me :D)

I don't see why people who are still living at home in their 20's should be embarrassed, if you're happy with it and your folks are then why not. If I hadn't moved away from Cork for college I'd probably still be happily living at home. I go home a fair bit and still miss it sometimes when I leave 4 years later. There's no place like home for me but I'm still glad I made the move, my parents did too much for us so I'd be completely useless if I didn't leave.

I moved away from home at 18 to go to college and have never had to move back since. I visit my parents all the time and am told my room is always there should I want it but I prefer the independance that comes with having your own place. Do love a long weekend in the homeands though, nothing like Mammy's cooking and having your clothes ironed :o

By taking out 95-100% mortgages, over 30-40 years. Essentially becoming slaves to the bank. If it's your thing , then go for it. Though you'd have to be a right idiot to buy property now.

went to college at 17 and was semi dependent on the parents during this period.
Had a job but parents paid rent, i paid for the rest.

20 i finished college after 4 years of college. yes i had just about turned 17 when i started college.

Went to australia for a year. Paid my own way.

Came back after a year moved back in for a few months while a adjusted to not moving around every few weeks.

23 now. No intention of moving back.

In all honestly you dont really need that much money to move out of home.
I have a slightly above min wage job and i get by fine. Have a car, rent a room in a nice house.

If you pay the slightest bit of attention to how much you spend then you will be sound.

Moved out at 17 for college, worked through college and got special grant which paid for most expenses. Parents paid the rest. Financially independant for a couple of years until they helped me with deposit for my own house. 27 now

How old were u guys when u moved out and of the ones who moved out who stayed out? (I know a lot of people who ended up moving back in!!)
24 and loving it (despite the high cost of rent :)).

Don't think I could move back to parents house, specifically cos of the hassle with younger siblings that would inevitably happen. Although it might be handy to do so for a couple of weeks when moving back permanently to Ireland.

    Stupid statement tbh.

There are loads of reasons people stay, like looking after a sick parent (part of why Ive stayed home), financial restraints caused by 3rd level education or saving for a house etc, not being ready to go.....loads of reasons. To generalize everybody over 19 or 20 who still live at home as "sad" is ridiculous.

Absolutely. 3rd level education required people to forego a full time job and basically live in poverty for a few years so its only natural to stay at home!

Lucky u movin out in september, i cant afford it Id say till next year :(
