    I can’t see anything you’ve done
Any reason for the trouble you’ve got
    You haven’t hurt anyone
Compared to most i’d say thats saying quiet alot
    I can’t help you when you’re sad
That’s a constant source of pain to me
Because i want to really bad
Even though you make it seem like nothing

    Elliott at his best.

    Also

I waited for a bus to separate the both of us
And take me off far away from you
Because my feelings never change a bit I always feel like s***
I don't know why I guess that I just do
You once talked to me about love
And you painted pictures of a Never Never land
And I could've gone to that place
    But I didn't understand

    Gut wrenching IMO

Bon Iver's great at it also. He captures something very raw and aching here I think...

    I crouch like a crow
    Contrasting the snow
For the agony I'd rather know
    Cause blinded, I am, blindsided
    Peek in...into the peer in
I'm not really like this...I'm probably plightless
    I cup the window
    I'm crippled and slow
For the agony I'd rather know.
Would you really rush out for me now

Way on up there where the air is thin
Limit’s supposed to be the sky
Trying not to let you down again

It’s starting to come to me

Mistaken for Strangers by The National:
Well you wouldn't want an angel watching over,
Surprise, surprise, they wouldn't want to watch
Short and sweet. It always gets me.

In the Aeroplane Over the Sea by Neutral Milk Hotel
And one day we will die, and our ashes will fly,
From the aeroplane over the sea.
But for now, we are young, let us lay in the sun,
And count every beautiful thing we can see

Now the Earth is a witch, and we still burn her
stripping her down with mining and the poison of our wars
Still to us the Earth is still a healer, a teacher and a Mother
a weaver of a web that keeps us all alive.
She gives us the wisdom to see through the chaos
she gives us the courage.... it is our will to survive.

    Burning Times- Christy Moore.

Really strong CD. Not Christys originally. The album has covers of several artists on it (Morrissey for one) but this tune is the one he really grabs perfectly.

As for the lovely Regina Spektor
    And people are just people,
    They shouldn't make you nervous.
    The world is everlasting,
    It's coming and it's going.
If you don't toss your plastic,
The streets won't be so plastic.
    And if you kiss somebody,
Then both of you'll get practice

    The Smiths

    A rush and a push....

    "HELLO
I am the ghost of Troubled Joe
hung by his pretty white neck
    some eighteen months ago
I travelled to a mystical time zone
    but I missed my bed
    so I soon came home
    they said:
    "there's too much caffeine
    in your blood stream
and a lack of real spice
    in your life"
    I said:
"leave me alone because I'm alright, dad
just surprised to still be on my own...."
    Ooh, but don't mention love
I'd hate the strain of the pain again
    "

    Also:

    Send me the pillow ...
The one that you dream on ...
    Send me the pillow ...
The one that you dream on ...
    And I'll send you mine

The Hold Steady - Constructive Summer

Me and my friends are like the drums on "Lust for Life”
We pound it out on floor toms
    Our psalms are sing-along songs

And this whole town is like this
Been that way our whole lives
Just work at the mill until you die
Work at the mill, and then you die

We’re gonna build something, this summer
We’re gonna build something, this summer
We’ll put it back together- raise up a giant ladder
With love, and trust, and friends, and hammers (This summer!)
We’re gonna lean this ladder up against the water tower
Climb up to the top, and drink and talk (This summer!)

Me and my friends are like “Double-whiskey-coke-no-ice.”
We drink along in double time; might drink too much, but we feel fine
We’re gonna build something, this summer.
    Gonna build something, this summer.

This summer, grant us all the power to drink on top of water towers,
With love, and trust, and shows, all summer (Get hammered!)
Let this be my annual reminder that we can all be something bigger

I went to your schools, I did my detention
But the walls are so gray, I couldn’t pay attention
I heard your gospel- it moved me to tears,
But I couldn’t find the hate, and I couldn’t find the fear
I met your Savior, I knelt at his feet,
And he took my ten bucks, and he went down the street
I tried to believe all the things that you said,
But my friends that aren’t dying are already dead.

Raise a toast to St. Joe Strummer
I think he might’ve been our only decent teacher
Getting older makes it harder to remember…we are our only saviors
We’re gonna build something, this summer

The Hold Steady have some great lyrics, love the middle eight from Navy Sheets.

    Sunday morning, sidewalk splattered.
    Feverish in stylish tatters,
didn’t this used to seem like glamour?
    I remember when it mattered.
    Can’t get over what’s transpired
left home virgins, came back vampires.
    Belted out like backscratched choirs
we're either dead or really tired.

Did I remember to stay up late
    Drinking for the fun
    Drinking for the taste
Did I run outside to kiss the rain
    Under electrical skies
    I'm dying tomorrow
    This house, this street, Chicago
    I'm dying tomorrow
    Did I do it right

    Alkaline Trio- I'm Dying Tomorrow.

    They spread throughout the nation
    They rode the railroad cars
    Brought their songs and music
    To ease their lonely hearts

Christy Moore/Luka Bloom- City Of Chicago.
I think it's a true immigrant song, regardless of where you may end up.

She became a magic mystery to me
And we'd sit together in double
    History twice a week
And some days we'd walk the same way home
    And it's surprising how quick
A little rain can clear the streets

    Billy Bragg- The Saturday Boy.

I can't believe there is nothing by Bob Dylan here:confused:
Sorry about the length of the song.

Its alright ma (i'm only bleedin)

Darkness at the break of noon
    Shadows even the silver spoon
The handmade blade, the child's balloon
Eclipses both the sun and moon
To understand you know too soon
There is no sense in trying.

Pointed threats, they bluff with scorn
    Suicide remarks are torn
    From the fools gold mouthpiece
The hollow horn plays wasted words
    Proved to warn
That he not busy being born
    Is busy dying.

Temptation's page flies out the door
You follow, find yourself at war
    Watch waterfalls of pity roar
You feel to moan but unlike before
    You discover
    That you'd just be
    One more person crying.

So don't fear if you hear
A foreign sound to you ear
It's alright, Ma, I'm only sighing.

As some warn victory, some downfall
    Private reasons great or small
Can be seen in the eyes of those that call
To make all that should be killed to crawl
While others say don't hate nothing at all
    Except hatred.

    Disillusioned words like bullets bark
As human gods aim for their marks
Made everything from toy guns that sparks
To flesh-colored Christs that glow in the dark
It's easy to see without looking too far
    That not much
    Is really sacred.

While preachers preach of evil fates
    Teachers teach that knowledge waits
    Can lead to hundred-dollar plates
    Goodness hides behind its gates
But even the President of the United States
    Sometimes must have
    To stand naked.

An' though the rules of the road have been lodged
It's only people's games that you got to dodge
And it's alright, Ma, I can make it.

    Advertising signs that con you
    Into thinking you're the one
That can do what's never been done
That can win what's never been won
    Meantime life outside goes on
    All around you.

    You loose yourself, you reappear
You suddenly find you got nothing to fear
Alone you stand without nobody near
When a trembling distant voice, unclear
Startles your sleeping ears to hear
    That somebody thinks
    They really found you.

A question in your nerves is lit
Yet you know there is no answer fit to satisfy
    Insure you not to quit
To keep it in your mind and not forget
That it is not he or she or them or it
    That you belong to.

Although the masters make the rules
For the wise men and the fools
I got nothing, Ma, to live up to.

For them that must obey authority
That they do not respect in any degree
Who despite their jobs, their destinies
Speak jealously of them that are free
    Cultivate their flowers to be
    Nothing more than something
    They invest in.

    While some on principles baptized
    To strict party platforms ties
    Social clubs in drag disguise
    Outsiders they can freely criticize
Tell nothing except who to idolize
And then say God Bless him.

While one who sings with his tongue on fire
Gargles in the rat race choir
Bent out of shape from society's pliers
Cares not to come up any higher
But rather get you down in the hole
    That he's in.

But I mean no harm nor put fault
On anyone that lives in a vault
But it's alright, Ma, if I can't please him.

Old lady judges, watch people in pairs
    Limited in sex, they dare
To push fake morals, insult and stare
While money doesn't talk, it swears
    Obscenity, who really cares
    Propaganda, all is phony.

While them that defend what they cannot see
    With a killer's pride, security
It blows the minds most bitterly
For them that think death's honesty
    Won't fall upon them naturally
    Life sometimes
    Must get lonely.

My eyes collide head-on with stuffed graveyards
    False gods, I scuff
At pettiness which plays so rough
    Walk upside-down inside handcuffs
Kick my legs to crash it off
Say okay, I have had enough
What else can you show me ?

And if my thought-dreams could been seen
They'd probably put my head in a guillotine
But it's alright, Ma, it's life, and life only.

s'funny you say that about Warren Zs lyric there - i don't think it's misery really. I agree it's a great lyric and as a 'BANG' open to a song, it's tip-top, but to be honest, any man who apparantly bags a waitress on any given night he's out ain't miserable. By the sounds of things, it was only a matter of time before he picked up a Russian spy...

Suppose so, but I think he was commenting on the ineptitude of the American Secret Service/CIA etc, not only fcuking the waitress but fcuking some other country as well. He was a great man for the metaphor was Warren, God rest him, and yeah he wrote some 'bang' openers!

Not really a Dylan fan due to robbing lots of old folk songs and not giving them credit.

Post some lyrics that inspire you or mean something to you,

preferrably small segments of them or one liners,
and explain them if you wish.

    Willie Mason - Oxygen
I know it sounds like a dream
But it's the only thing that can get me to sleep at night

    Arcade Fire - Wake up
If the children don’t grow up,

We’re just a million little god’s causin rain storms turnin’ every good thing to rust.

Of Montreal - suffer for Fashion
if we've got to burn out
    let's do it together
    let's all melt down together
    together

YOU KNOW THEY REFUSED JESUS TOO!
