Your Connection Not Working Today?

I work for a major ISP here in Ireland and we've been inundated with calls this morning from users with no connection. Turns out a recent Windows Update causes users of ZoneAlarm's personal firewall to loose connection. Just thought I'd give you guys a head's up;

Zone Alarm's Website wrote:

Sudden loss of internet access - Microsoft Update KB951748 is known to cause loss of internet access for ZoneAlarm users. We recommend that users uninstall KB951748 using "Add or Remove Programs" until the issue is resolved.

Not heard any reports,
then again I've not come across anyone using Zonealarm in months

Aye, I used to use it myself back in the good auld days but since they've been blocking known torrent ports etc because of underhand dealings with other various companies I've switched.

The hardware firewall in my router seems to do the job.

Zone Alarm is a pain in the hole.

It never used to be but it certainly is now, heh. Funilly enough though it's not ZL's fault that this is an issue. It's Microsoft's :P

The offending update to win xp is K951748 can be overcome by lowering security level of zone alarm or by removing update till a fix has been found for the update

Thanks a lot OP. We had lightening here in Galway yesterday. Just as the storm was warming up it hit the lines and everything went off including the PC, router and all. The computer is hooked up to a surge protecter but not the router. I tried using the net an hour later and although the router appeared to be fine there just appeared to be no connection. Needless to say I got a bit paraniod. I'm only after breaking out the laptop now to see how the wireless connection is. I was just coming on to ask for help! Cheers.
