i am trying to set up a second router(WRT54GL). as shown in attachment.
the voip router is set up as dhcp so i have disabled this in the linksys.
(what i would like is to be able to send and recieve files from the laptop to both the main pc and the server)

the patch cable from the voip router is plugged into the WAN connection of the WRT54GL, and the server is plugged into one of the other 4 ,

    voip router is 192.168.15.1
    main pc is 192.168.15.161
the default on the linksys is 192.168.1.1 but when i try and access this from the main pc i can't.

i can access it from the server ( running ubuntu)

should i be configuring if using static ip, pppoe, ppptp,or something else?
do i need to enter the ip of the isp?

    From the manual
'If another Router exists on your network, select Router. When Router is
chosen, Dynamic Routing will be enabled
    .'
    i have done this

    anyone got any suggestions?

Question can you see the server from your desktop pc?
Have you tried pinging it ? if yes did it work ?

    secondly
The linksys needs to be setup as Router
So no you don't need to setup ip of the isp or pppoe, ppptp.

Third from your linksys router you normaly have a option under " Administration " Diagnostics " open up Ping and type in the IP of the Voip router.

I have a similiar setup at home
Scientific atlanta router disabled dhcp on it.
Linksys wrt54gs enabled dhcp on it

Atlanta router connected into the wan port on the linksys.
My server is on port 1 static ip
    Bog standard 192.xxx.xxx.xxx range
    subnet 255.255.255.0
Gateway on both is set to the linksys router ie 192.168.110.1

Desktop on port 2 static ip
    Bog standard 192.xxx.xxx.xxx range
    subnet 255.255.255.0
Gateway on both is set to the linksys router ie 192.168.110.1

Media Center set to dhcp picks up a ip of the linksys.
laptop picks up a ip using dhcp of the linksys router

Have you a crossover cable between the VOIP router and the WRT54GL? Not sure if there is auto-MDI/MDI-X on the switch ports of either but if there is not then you need a crossover cable since you are basically connecting two switches together.

EDIT: Disregard above since you can ping the voip router from linksys

EDIT 2: Why have you a patch cable plugged into the wan port of the WRT54GL? Do you need the WRT54GL router actually routing? I wouldn't set up routing unless you know what you are doing. Just plug the patch cable from the VOIP router into one of the 4 ports of the wrt54gl to use it as a switch (like I said above, you might need a crossover cable).

Also maybe flash the WRT54GL with DD-WRT firmware so as to get many more options. With dd-wrt you can turn that wan port into a switch port IIRC.
