Hi, I was wondering if anyone knows a good resource (book, film or
otherwise) into the history of Offaly (and possibly the midlands).
I have been trying to do some light research into the history of my
county, though everything I have come across has just spewed "for
tourists". If anyone knows a source, please post it, it's greatly
    appreciated!

    Thanks

George Cunningham wrote "The Anglo Norman advance into the south-west midlands 1185-1221" Published in Roscrea by Parkmore Press in 1987. You should be able to pick it up on Amazon or in Roscrea tourist centre. It deals with part of southern Offaly from what I remember. I did a reapprisal of it for my thesis, it's a scholary work but nothing in it to scare a lay person away.
