Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

See who can make the best team (all-time) made up of players with the same last initial.

I haven't really thought it through, and as no 'A' keeper springs to mind (apart from Abbiati), I'll start from the back with the mighty Italian trio of Buffon, Baresi and Bergomi to shore up the defence. Baggio, Butragueno and Bergkamp form a front trio who should spent most of their time fighting over whose turn it is to score a ridiculously good goal. I've just thought of Best, which will somewhat scupper my initial 4-3-1-2 formation but I'll shoehorn him in near the corner flag somewhere... Ok, then, three-man defense with big Andy Brehme joining the Milanese élite. His two good feet and ability to stick away a penalty could come in useful. I could be lazy and put in Beckham, so I'll do that, at least until the end of the paragraph when I'll probably find 6 players better to slot in on the right. Which leads me needing a couple of solid ball-winners in centre-mid. My mind has stalled...

For the sake of fielding eleven players, I'll add in the utterly lovely pairing of Bowyer and Barton. Worst midfield ever. Except Best, obviously.

If you could fill the rest of this team with 4 decent players it wouldn't be bad at all. Just going on reputation for most of these though.

    Sepp Maier
    --Bobby Moore---Paulo Maldini---
    Lothar Matthaus
    --Leo Messi
    Diego Maradona--
    Gerd Muller

    Midfield's a bit of a problem, eh?

Makelele might be worth a punt.

Predrag Mijatović and Paul McGrath would be good picks.

    Leo Messi--Diego Maradona--Predrag Mijatović

    edit: Milla as well.

Trilla! You're like my clone. A clone with the intelligence to be able to count to eleven that is. :o

    OK my revised line-up:

    Dean Kiely

    Stephen Kelly
    Alan Kernaghan
    Kevin Kilbane

    Gary Kelly----Mark Kinsella
    Roy Keane
    Mark Kennedy
    David Kelly----Andy Keogh----Robbie Keane

Well done on the Jeff Kenna reference by the way. Didn't think of him!

Let's try the dreaded Z (hopefully Trilla won't get in there before me!):

    Andoni Zubizaretta

    Gianluca Zambrotta
    Gokhan Zan
    Yuri Zhirkov
    ----Boudiwijn Zenden--Konstantin Zyrayanov--Zlatko Zahovic---Zico

    Casillias
    Carlos
    Cannavaro
    Carlos Alberto
    Cafu
    Johan Cruijff
    Cole
    Callaghan
    Case
    Charlton
    Cantona

Not a bad side for off the top of my head. A lot of goalkeepers begin with the letter C though I noticed.

    Zinedine Zidane

    Gianfranco Zola
    Bobby Zamora

I'd stick Zamorano up front ahead of Bobby Zamora. Zoff in goal? That's not actually a bad team, you know!

I'll try T, with players who were still playing as of last season

    Toldo
    Thuram--Terry--M. Torres--M. Taylor
    ----Tommasi--Toulalan--Thiago
    ----Totti
    Torres
    Toni

    Manager: Trapatoni :)

Not a bad counter-attacking team, really. Tommasi is in there because my mind is completely blank.

    Onopko

    Overath

    Overmars
    Olsen

    Okocha
    Ortega

    Olisadebe
    Oman-Biyik

Odonkor and Olic just missed out.

Found it very hard to get defenders and strikers, and no way was I sticking in John O'Shea!!! Ian Ormondroyd also jsut somehow missed the cut!

    David Seaman
David Navarro David Rozenhal David Wheater
David Beckham David Batty David Rocastle David Silva
    David Ginola
    David Trezeguet David Villa

David suddenly looks like a really weird name to me.

Nah I'd say the M's have it. A keeper regarded by many as the best ever. A defender who I think is without doubt the best ever. An attacker regarded by many as the worlds greatest ever player. The most prolific striker Europe has ever seen. Then the likes of Messi, Matthaus, Moore and McGrath aren't/weren't half bad either. :)
