Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Girls Only - No Manginas Allowed!

Hi Gals

Just thought we might benefit from a Girls Only thread. After all we are currently representing only 22% or thereabouts of the total PSNI service at the moment, though they are aiming to get this up to 25%, the highest of any force in the UK (Yay!)

So for a gals perspective on all things PSNI, be it the recruitment process, or perhaps you're already in Garnerville training, or just gal chat, lets post it here and leave the testosterone out of it!

"Remember, Ginger Rodgers did everything that Fred Astaire did but she did it backwards and in high heels!!!!"

LOL Decided to keep it clean as PSNI would proably crack up and delete our little girly thread!!

Anyway, how did you find your AC? How long did it last? How many were there as well - they seem to be quite small groups too - were there many girls?

Mine just under four weeks away, cant wait to get it over with! Nervous but kind of excited too!!:p

Is this your first time applying?

Will I ever stop asking questions????? LOL :D

LOL.:D

My AC wasn't too bad, i definately think I got better as I went along, i.e. the first roleplay was my worst as your not exactly sure what to expect when you walk in that room.

There was only 8 of us there, 4 ladies & 4 guys funny enough.

I know what you mean, i was nervous in the run up, but on the actual day i relaxed as the process went on, plus the consensia people who "check you in" were really nice which helps!

I've done the IST 3 times, missed it by 1 mark my 1st attempt, then by a couple of marks on my 2nd. So glad to have got a bit further this time, and if i don't do well in Medical or merit pool at least i'll know what to expect next time.

Good luck with yours!! and serioualy asking questions is the best way!!!

This is my first time applying, initally failed the IST by 2! Then got the reprieve letter from Consensia so mega chuffed.

I am dreading the roleplays most I think. Does the time fly in or drag in them? I will be sweating buckets and shaking like a leaf most likely!!

They do seem like quite small groups for the AC so hopefully it should whizz by with not too much time waiting around for the head to pickle!

Were all the girls there smartly dressed? I think you'd feel crap if you rolled up mega casual and everyone else was in their Sunday best LOL
Anyway after its over I will be out the door and head first into the nearest bar for a very large G&T!!!

Lets hope third times the charm for you!!!!!

Men and manginas are two different entities actually.

A man is one who has retained his masculinity even in this Matriarchal society that we now inhabit; a mangina is one who has thrown it in an attempt to support the feminist revolution.

While there are an excessive number of manginas in the Western world, I would wager to say that most male applicants for the police force would not be of this regressive disposition.

Thanks Dudess. Nice to see that some of us still have A SENSE OF HUMOUR.

Which, FYI, as a female police officer in a male dominated workplace will be fecking useful.

Thanks! I really want this... don't we all!!! I thought the roleplays went in quickly, and it's fine if your resolve the problem before the 5mins are up! I reckon after your 1st one you'll feel more confident about what to expect for the next 2 and you'll do great!

Yeah i was surprised it was only 8 of us, i started at 9am and was out by 12 so there isn't too much waiting around, any time i did have, i just read over the green sheet to remind myself of the competancies - not sure if they sank in or not though!

I agree about dressing for an interview, I went in all black, heels included. 2 of the other girls were dressed smart and one was in jeans. I also opted for natural makeup and didnt' wear much bling! :D

Seeing as it's in a hotel you should be able to get that G&T easy enough!! :D

I would quite a smallish group and in and out quickly!!! I am near the very end of the AC run so think it most likely will be. But you never can tell!!!

Bought a cracking trouser suit and killer heels so will deffo LOOK the part...whether I can pull it off on the day remains to be seen!!!

Cant believe someone turned up in jeans - seriously, basically its an interview for a job where the uniform is paramount - why wouldnt you demonstrate you can be well turned out?!!

Have already made arrangements with a mate for a liquid lunch afterwards in the Kitchen Bar!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL And maybe some shopping as a reward;)

No sleep night before + g&t on empty stomach = pished by 3 oclock!!!!!!!!

Yeah six stone and counting, still another stone and a half to come off. Long story but needless to say very happy now without the fat lying cheating scumbag!!!!!!!!! :D

And yes, they do kick ass in the PT in GV. The fitter you go in the better IMHO!

I go to the gym and have a personal trainer who is awesome. Never ever in a million years thought that a) I would have lost the weight ( heartbroken helps enormously but I wouldnt recommend it!) and that b) I could do weights and train the way I do now!

But feel so much better for it and that I have got my life back! I always wanted to be a cop, applied for the RUC at 18 but got turned down and told to come back when I was 21 - but by that time I was with the now ex, and the rest is history. He thought that everyone who became a peeler only did cos they were too stupid to do anything else. What a wan**er. Thank the lord he's history and some other homewrecking sluts problem now!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well go you, for getting your life back on track after your stinkin' ex.

And 'resiliance' is one of those core competancies consensia look for, so applying again despite being turned down and having an ex spin some sh*t at ya, shows you got it!

People always say you feel much better when you exercise regularly, i'm looking forward to starting up again. My main aim is to strengthen my lungs and generally get fitter but i'd be lying if i said i didnt wanna lose a stone too and tone up!

Your ex sounds like a tw@t, well look at ya now, you've shown him! :P

Love the thread MGH! Very nice indeed :p And loving the all the postive mental attitude coming from us girls, great stuff!

My mum has been really anxious about me wanting to join, but we got talking to a lovely female constable today, and it really allayed her concerns a little (which is a big thing, believe me!), and made me want to get through this whole process even more (if thats possible) :D

Thanks Squirrel81!

When I told my mum and dad I was applying they were very supportive I'm glad to say.

Have you had your AC yet? If so, how did it go? Best of luck for your campaign!

MGH

Had AC last month, and got vetting forms through the door last week. That is some form!! Ive got a big family, so it's taking time getting it all filled in. 3 weeks left to find out if Ive passed, I know people are saying if you get the forms its a pass, but, you never know!

The AC was nowhere near as scary as I thought it would be, and the role play actors not as bad I was expecting. You'll be grand.

Was pleased that I dressed smart and remembered the heels! :P

This is exactly the kind of talk I always expected you lot got up to when you go to the loo's in pairs (pairs minimum ;))

MrsGH. Thanks for the honoury award, it's certainly a new addition to my CV :D

And while we're talking measurements (steady!) I'm 6' tall. Ok I'm 5'11½". Ok, Ok, right, I'm 5' 11" barefoot. And no MOOBS I can guarantee ;)

As far as commenting on bras, bum hugging trousers, periods () and any other subject pertinent to the fairer sex, I think I'll decline. I would be more knowledgeable about the molecular structure of the atom whilst suspended in a state of negative magnetism within a field force created by another planets gravity (and I don't know if even that sentance makes any sense either, help!)

Keep up the good work gals. Your thread is the most entertaining by far :D

Hi Ladies,

I'm new to this forum and so glad there is a female only thread!!!!

I passed AC a few weeks back and vetting forms have been returned and im so trying not to get my hopes built up as this is my first time applying!

Speak to you all soon
Shazza x

• Registered Users Posts: 2,012 ✭✭✭MrsGeneHunt

Hi Shazza and welcome to the dark side!!! LOL

Well done on getting through the AC and getting those Vetting forms back - its surely looking good for you! And for your first time too, most excellent!

My AC still a few weeks away. Nerves are mounting and they need to be calmed with vast amounts of wine. I know, its tough but it needs done!!

Great to have you over here, best of luck for the rest of your campaign!

JVB

Maybe you' re a closet tranny - you do seem to be spending an awful lot of time over here.....:D

Women go to the loos in pairs for lots of reasons. Firstly, its hard to gossip alone. Secondly, 99% of the time the only free cubicle is the one with the dodgy lock and you have to have your mate hold it shut lest someone barge in and see you, thong around ankles with a look of anguish on your face as you realise there is no loo roll.
Thirdly, usually one of you is slightly more pissed than the other and therefore the more sober of the pair can navigate you both back to the rest of your party.
Fourthly, you may well have spotted a "hotty" and you will need your friend to a) give her opinion on the level of hotness and to ascertain if b) yes he did make eyecontact and you're not imagining it.

None of the above are in any particular order BTW!!!

Hope this helps:D

And I'll have to take your word for it on the moobs issue:p

I've uber long hair but i hear ya can plait it upside down so it fits in your hat ok, ha ha.

:D

I know from a bit of previous chat with girls who got in that you get issued with a unifrom style guide and I think it covers make-up etc. Mind you I have seen female officers looking like they are heading out on the town instead of being on duty. Like seriously plastered in make-up. Not v professional I thought. Whilst I cant be seen in public sans slap, thinks keeping it neutral would be best for being on duty. As for the hair sorry, I have a short do!!

My main concern is stll those bl**dy trousers tho, they are not a very flatttering cut all I can think of is my ass looking so huge it will need a postcode of its own.:D

I wonder do us gals get a harder time of it in Garnerville, cos it is pretty basic, thank god its only 4 weeks living in.

Oh hold on MGH, getting waaaaaay ahead of yourself girlie!!!:P

We had better be allowed foundation at least!!!! OMG sooooooo scary without it (not much better with it). Your hair needs to be tidy like a bun etc, mines is shoulder length so it goes up into a dinky ponytail!!!:)

A cop came into work recently with tonnes of jewellery, make up and bright purple nail polish on. It was awful lookin!

I think we will have a harder time ie

hair removal (legs, arm pits, eyebrows and other sporatic fur)
hair (washin, drying, straightenin, puttin up etc)
make up etc etc

Sometimes i think it would be easier as a fella. Wash and go!!!!

Yeah I was thinking along the same lines for training college. I mean communal showers, bleugh, I'm not what you would call an exceptionally low maintenance kind of gal!!! Still, it is only for four weeks, we can do it girls.. and please god that we get the chance and get the feck in!!!

We had a female officer in where I work recently and she was very well presented. A credit to the uniform.
But bright purple nail polish....ewwwwwwwwwwwww

:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:
