    What's a DSL filter for? (Asking for my dad so I have no idea what the question even means!)

    Edit: Scrap that, google is my friend!

    It is pretty much what the phrase sounds like. It filters/splits the ADSL signal from an analog one. In other words, you plug all your analog devices into a filter to keep them from adding noise to the ADSL signal. Broadband can work without them but it leads to problems or simply no signal.
