i myself haven't been there for at least one year because it is beyond my comprehension how people can enjoy a night out there.

what is it about being jammed in like sardines in a tin and shouting at each other because blaring speakers?

    an absolutely overrated place!!!

Was there last night. Has to be the worst pint in town (bought from the Outback Bar). A place like that should be reinvesting back into making sure the draught is up to scratch. Not doing so is giving the two fingers to their customers

+1 and its like being back in a smoking bar - no getting away from smokers in the outback

Its not just the squash that bugs me, its the music too - it never changes. Its like groundhog day in there at times. That said, I wouldn't expect the crowds or the music to change any time soon......Nancys is a license to print money.

I do like the old bar for a few lazy day pints mind you....:)

yea, they always play bob dylan "hurricane", always. If there wasn't so much of a crush, it would be better. However, there are always WAY too many fellas in there compared to women. Not good for singles!!:p

Totally agree, I'm sick of the same music, the same song playing almost at the exact same time each night...

Haven't been there in a while. Got too expensive for my student budget and. I used to like it. Not sure if I would now if its as packed as ye say.

Most comments above are fair. But the question is - where IS good?

Think Lmk nightlife has become diabolical in recent years. When Dolans took off - the city council should have jumped on it and created a development opportunity for some kind of nightlife 'strip' on the dock road. Pub crawling around Michael St. just has a menacing air to it somehow. Outsider visitors prefer a beaten path to wandering in a maze of shady lanes. Not good to have it on O'Conn St. so dock road would have been perfect. Easy access to for cabs. Too late for this now?

also +100 it would have been the perfect spot...however...there wasnt much they could do about it...im unsure of the exact year the gas works was decommisioned but they have to be left idle for 10 years before being developed on..and the doc lands future is still undecided..

Ended up in nancy's last night and after reading this yesterday I paid alot more attention to what the place was like, and I have to say the place did start to annoy me...exact same music at almost the exact same time, place totally packed, one of the bar men start messing with the music system trunung it on and off so people could sing along... but ended up making a mess of it...

The only problem is most other pubs are empty on a Thursday night.... it is really the only place to go if you want a bit of a crowd...

I know they tear the arse out of Bob Dylan's "Hurricane" & U2 (no problem there) but what are the other annoying songs?

    Totally agreed lads,
Id often pass the place and see people waiting in line to try get in, cant figure it out.
Maybe its just me but you spend long enough trying to get served in a busy pub without having to wait to get in there in the first place!!!
    And the pints are terrible!!
So many other places to get a nice pint and enjoy your saturday night!

I like nancys but usually in early enough to get a seat in the old bar.

But this queueing for pubs thing is a joke never not a chance unless the beer was free but then who wouldn't

    Firstly it's never too late.

Secondly, it shouldn't be one area or the other.

Thirdly, the council should work on turning the Cornmarket area into a viable nightclubbing area. Whether we like ot or not, it has the most popular pubs and clubs in Limerick.

There is no need to remove the Cornmarket to have a viable riverfront.

Growing up as a teenager in the early 90's I absolutly Hated the place!!!
It was a poser/Rugby Jock place where mainly rich kids went to have have
some fun. When I was 16-20 it was one of the hardest places to get into
underage! and when I turned 18 they said it was over 21's once when I was
21 they told me it was 23's etc etc etc. Other times I went drinking there
hassle free but it was frustrating as it was Jammers and you could not move
or get to the bar to order a drink.

I like someplace where you can actually sit down, order a drink without having
to battle crowds and actually socialise with people rather then been squashed
into a place like a tin of sardine.

nancy's is a joke of a place. i used to go there alot around 8/9 years ago, and went again last xmas. honest to god, it's like the place is stuck in a timewarp -> hardly anything has changed. it's either they don't give a **** about the customers (as the beer is ****e/music playlist hardly ever changes) or they mgmt/owners genuinely don't have a clue. tbh, i have no interest of ever going there again.

Wouldn't be a fan of it most nights, due to overcrowding and same Paddy Casey / Chelsea Dagger / Libertines songs, however was there tonight had a great time, very decent sized crowd for a Sunday night, excellent jazz band and the talent was savage - though in fairness this is usually one of its saving graces on the overcrowded nights.

I agree with you but the management obviosuly have a clue if the place is always packed.

yeah, i guess. but maybe it's an issue of the customers just not having an alternative at the moment. if there was any decent competition, i'd expect nancys to fold. anyways, i haven't been there since xmas, so maybe the place has improved... :p

There is a stack of alternatives when smyths first opened everyone said thats the end of nancys but no same with flannery's & the corn market.

IMO it really comes down to the fact that you know its gonna be that way and you have just to accept it.

Plus I find on the rare occaision i'm in the outback that people only use nancys as a starting pub piles of people just come in for one or two then move on but then often head back again as the other places are dead.

I suppose it also is that I used to drink mainly on week nights when it wasn't too mad
