Eye all the way: some art-house (well at least not 100% mainstream) films. If you work for the right multi-national, the social club gets tickets at a very nice discount. And the average patron is a slightly more classy drunk than on Headford Rd.

The one in Oranmore beats them all!

Am I right in saying the adult ticket in the omniplex is cheaper than the eye and the childs ticket is cheaper in the eye than in the omniplex?! And they only sell PEPSI in the eye? No COCA COLA? I mean, quelle the fudge?!

I turned 19 last friday, went to the eye on sunday and I got in on a child's ticket! I get children's tickets in the omniplex too! Brilliant!

Why does the Omniplex only sell COKE?

It's because once a business like the Eye or the Omniplex decide they are going to sell coke, then they can't sell pepsi. Or vice-versa. It's stupid, but true.

Yeah I hate that too! Especially when the people each side of ya are 6"3 and 6"4, they squish your drink with their legs open and you can't get it out without hitting them!

Krieg: It's 9.25 for an adult ticket! Madness!
What happened to the day where you could go to the cinema and get popcorn and coke for under £10?

I think I prefer the eye...

The snacks and the likes are pricey because thats the only way a cinema makes its money. Cinemas only recieve a small percentage of the money made from ticket sales; the rest goes back to the distributors.

    Also it's 7.25euro (I think) on a weekday. Only Friday-Sunday that it's 9.25.

My vote would be for the Eye - have only been to two cinema's in Galway, with the other being the one in Oranmore, which was a pretty depressing experience ; expensive, less than straight forward parking/getting out, and generally a bit of a perceived knifey-knifey buzz from the youf's ;)

In saying that, I only go to the Eye Mon-thurs as its that bit cheaper (too pricey for me at the weekends), and food-wise I find the popcorn is rarely anything other than a bit stale and gick. The Ben and Jerry's counter is nice though, and pretty good for value compared to the other concession stand stuff - although if I remember right the Ben and Jerry's counter only opens after 5.30pm or something like that?

Staff are usually pretty friendly, and I never really have an issue with the leg room (we always try to sit in the first three rows that are seperate from the main "block" of seating...its not ideal being close to the screen, but I find the seating very very comfy.

Parking is a doddle and never an issue

There is no demand for ice-cream usually on a weekday during the day. But on a weekend it opens from around 1pm.

I remember when i went to see The Departed in the Eye i had to ask the usher if the sound could be turned down a bit as it was so loud and edgy.He comes back a few minutes later and says it was done  It was like having glass torn across your ear drums, the distortion and whatever tool EQ'ed the sound must have been deaf.I had the same experience a few weeks later at another flick in the same screen :(, note to Eye don't employ cloth ears on your audio.

If you were still annoyed, you should've reported it again to the floor staff, who would have forwarded the problem on to the projectionists and then would've sorted it properly.

    Don't serve guinness afaik

Its all laa-dee-daa beers (tiger etc.)

I would hardly count bulmers as laa-dee-daa. It's just that there's no draft, just bottles.

I think I already know the answer to this but Im interested in peoples opinions

Which cinema do you prefer, Omni-plex or The Eye?

    Im going with eye cinema
    -Seats are more comfortable
    -Nicer staff
    -More choice of food
-less "Fanta filled fcukers" & Scumbags

However, Leg space is an issue for long legged creature such as myself, I find myself crossing my legs every 10 mins. I can't rest my legs normally as id be knocking knees with the patron beside me. I could swear the Omni has better leg room or maybe its just me.
The Eye also said they were gonna have classic films shown when they opened (classic as in the likes of Terminator 2). Alas, they never delivered

Im about 5mins walking distance from the Eye, but even if I was 5 mins from the Omni, id still go to the Eye

    Opinions?

It's supply and demand I would presume. If there's nobody asking for these movies, then they wont show them. Ask a manager, email them, let them know there's an interest there and it might just happen.

Aye they have a forum. My mate was asking there and also emailing (He's a film buff). People on the forums wanted it too, Im that pushed tbh

I'd have to disagree about the eye :P

We go the ominplex - reason being..... My TV is bigger than most screens in the Eye cinema. The size of the screens there really are pathetic - want to see what a REAL cinema experience is like? Then go to Screen 1 in the Savoy in O'Connell street Dublin. Then come back to the eye and see what you think!

I have to ask twice? Are you taking the piss? NOTHING was done when i initially asked but was told something was being done.Either the member of staff i asked did nothing, the projectionist is deaf or you got some serious audio issues.

Strange. I stopped going to the omniplex cos i found it too loud. I went to see 'Death Proof' last year and the extreme loudness made a bad film into a terrible film.

Food in the EYE is far superior too, Nachos with cheese n salsa is savage, Proper hot spicy cheese and nice tangy salsa, the salsa in the Omni to me seems watery and the cheese cant cut it.

I like seats in the omniplex better, too expensive though.

Unless they do better deals they will lose a lot of business. I often walk to the eye as it is cheaper although further away.

  • Registered Users Posts: 476 ✭✭Nuggles

    The Eye.

Purely because it's cheaper. It's further away though so I don't head out there much.

Nicer seats than the omniplex too.

Does anyone else feel that they neglect to EVER turn the heating on in The Eye? I froze my ass off through Jarhead, The Golden Compass, Memoirs Of A Geisha and Mamma Mia in particular. It's sad when you have to remember to bring a warm jacket to the cinema with you....

Little feckers in the omniplex piss me off so the EYE is much better.Oranmore is also okay although I was only at the last screening.

Popcorn in Omniplex tastes more like cardboard everytime I'm there.

BTW did they open that cinema in Salthill yet or am I just dreaming?

WAKE UP John!!!!!!! No that was supposed to go into Bailey Point? Bailey is open but its just a car park now and has people living in the Apartments there.

Not a huge difference for me between the two but probably prefer the Eye.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,071 ✭✭✭Art_Wolf

Generally the Eye though screen 3 at least is crap and the lack of a credit card ticket dispenser in the lobbby sucks :/ Last time was in the Omni though the chairs went back furthur then I liked which outweighs everything else damnit!

I'm surprised the vast majority of people pick the eye. Me personally i don't like the eye at all. I much prefer the omniplex. Find it more comfortable and the prefer the popcorn there too!! I've even driven to Oranmore just to avoid the eye!!!

Never in the Eye but always in Oranmore, had to bring a jacket with me once or twice...something wierd up there, about the heating not working in winter but does in summer? or something....equally logical.

Think the sounds of people orgasming would ruin the sound quality a tad.

just in omniplex as that's where tickets booked, seats there are great imo.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,104 ✭✭✭moonflower

    Eye for sure.
The popcorn and all that is so much cheaper there than the Omiplex, and the building is much nicer and less stuffy.

  • Registered Users Posts: 699 ✭✭✭hada

went to omniplex last week on fri, flashed the student cards and to my dismay, no student rates. 18euro for both of us (and that's not including the sweets/drinks/popcorn etc)....would have saved an absolute bundle had I gone to the eye!.

oh and I see noone has mentioned that backroom porn theather reported on the boards awhile back..... no problem with leg room there I could imagine!... ;)

Again, two words, Ruby Tuesday. Was at the Dark Knight last night in the eye, and as much as i love the place and very very rarely go to the omniplex, i have noticed the sound kinda quiet in screen8. been to see Mama Mia, Wall.e and The Dark Knight in the past two weeks and have noticed it and have pointed it out to the people Im with and theyve acknowledged it. said to to staff too. i just always remember being almost encapsulated by noise, whereas i have been able to hear chit chat from the people behind me during noisy bits..i def think theyve lowered the sound and to be honest it makes me reconsider going to screen8 again..
