Always wondered the same thing myself...
Eventually I just gave up wondering and decided to move to London instead

Nonsense. You can go play poker all night long if you wish.

If it's a nice (enough) night, I enjoy late night (or very early morning) strolls. Along the prom or such (ocean is great at night), but even wandering around a town - everything looks and feels different than the day.

I work as a night porter, so I'm generally at work until the wee hours. When I'm off it's generally pub and then a mates house until late. Or potentially just a mates house playing video games or what not from the start.

Java's - the coffee house on abbeygate across from CPs - is open pretty late, so you could just chill there if you don't want a pub vibe. Having said that tho, they tend to service the post-cps crowd so it can get sort of supermacs ish at late.

I don't know, but maybe the NUI student center is open all night? And then there's always casinos ;)

I dont know about randomly walking around town at night. I'd rather have somewhere to go, instead of just walking for the sake of it (not that I wouldn't normally enjoy it, just doesn't appeal to me to do it at night, for various reasons.)

Are any of the games places open late?

Squareyes seem to close at 12 every night.

I'm not a coffee house type of person anyways...

What would a non-student be doing in the NUI student centre in the middle of the night?

Hmm. I feel like I've seen people in one near the Roisin pretty late. I'm not sure though.

True I guess that could quickly lead to security being called on ya. I used to live near a uni and would raid the student center vending machines for my late night munchie runs - occasionally resulted in craic when I encountered students there on similar missions.

Honestly, having lived in a much bigger city, there's not that much more to do in the wee hours there. Well, you have more, but more of the same types of things - mates house, late bar/club, diner/coffee house, grocery store, card rooms. There was a couple 24 hour gyms - which Galway doesn't have obviously - so that was nice. Not much run for the equipment at 4 in the morning ;) Actually, I guess Galway doesn't really have a proper late club or all night diner either.

Oh, I guess I'm forgetting the obvious - is Galway's notorious 'porno theater' 24 hours? ;)

    And an jigsaw blade!

+1 on the walks around Galway in the dark, provided you've someone to walk with (you just look like a freak if you do it alone - Get a GF maybe? :p) - I regularly walk with herself out the prom, back into down, down by the docks (har har) can be lovely relaxing and romantic (hence why I wouldnt recommend doing it with another fella!) - To make it a little more fun, get a bottle of buckie, lob it into a Coke bottle - SORTED!

Jog? Read? (Ok, so the library isn't open then, but I believe their books still work after dark :) ) Visit the folks down at Mill St and see if the lad on the desk is bored and wants to chat? Ditto the 24-hour food places on Prospect Hill. .. Ahh, got it: supermarket shopping- Tesco is 24x7. Listen to talkback radio (will make you feel good about how normal your friends are!) Learn a musical instrument and use it for practice time (ok, this does depend on the sound-proofness of your room/house). Help the council out by picking up rubbish in the city-centre. Take up public graffiti-art. Start a 2am chess club. Surf the 'net. Chat to the homeless people. Feed the swans/pigeons.

I heard that Wired had closed down, I don't know if it's true tbh though.

It wouldn't be open that late anyways

We're definately not closed down, quiet the contrary. :)

We have late-night sessions at two or three nights a week (until around 2am/4am).

Socs Night is Wednesdays, always has a good attendance and goes on until at least 3am. It's FanSci's night but open to everyone.

You can find out more at http://WiredIreland.com

    Major apologies Rabid...

I don't trust the guy that told me it was, but he seemed adamant!

I must give your place a go again. My regular spot is squareyes but I'm sick of it tbh, plus I prefer your saves drive system.

    That's sound man. :)

We're continually improving the place (or at least striving to ;)). We'll probably be closing for a few days later in the month while we redo the premises.

I've been recreating our Saves System from scratch, to be more robust and have more features, such as a Saves Manager for checking/importing/exporting/deleting saves. That should be installed over the next week (it is fully compatible with the old system though, so your current saves will still be good).

We're also getting Xbox 360 controllers for all our systems, along with games to go with them (Race Driver GRID, Pro Evo/Fifa 08 etc). I'm definately looking forward to a tournament in GRID, it's excellent.

We'll also be doing some back to school/college promotions in September, including some special tournaments, free time, showcases etc.
