I came to post my setup but the quality 'round here is a bit too high for my ghetto build.

    Sound.

Way back when there was a guy here who built his PC in a cardboard box so I'd say you'll be OK. :)

Think the logic was that if someone broke into his place, they'd overlook it.

Reminds me of the person who recently built a modern PC into an early 90's off-white desktop case....brilliant for the same reason.

They'd sooner rob your jocks than what looks like a Win 95 desktop.

This is also a great thread to get some cool ideas from too. The chap who posted a few pages back had me in awe of his setup. I love checking them out no matter what they look like.

    Desk 3.0

IKEA TÄRENDÖ table as base (full steel frame!)

Shelf held up with cabinet legs; also has some underlighting (went for LED spotlights; should've gone for an LED strip).

Looks to be a good bit more room now from the last desk you had.

I'm aware it's the wires behind the desk are all over the place...I'm gonna get that sorted the next time I take apart the PC..(inevitable new GPU)

Not to pick on the case (it's a beauty), but the specs say it only holds x2 3.5" drives? Is that accurate?

I'm the same with the wires. My OCD goes into overdrive every time i look under it. I do have one of the below that helps a bit with power banks.

Sounds accurate. More for looks than function. Sure what would you need any more than two for anyway? You can always hook up a usb drive to store stuff and disconnect when finished and connect back up when you need it.

Yeah the cage on the back has space for two 3.5" drives but I'd say that would be more than enough for 99% of people? I just took mine out, have a 500GB SSD anyway, use external drives for storage.

Besides, you can always go large on the drives - I've got an 8TB and a 4TB (both 7200RPM) on top of my 525GB SSD. Time it right and you can quite pretty excellent prices on Amazon.

I guess I'm just a dino at his stage :o I've got the following:

    x1 2.5" SSD Boot Drive
    x1 2.5" 2TB for 4K media
    x2 3.5" 3TB for Media Center duties
x1 3.5" 4TB for Emulation (full sets for loads of systems, artwork, preview vids, etc)

^^ all living in a Core V1

The tv where the pc is, is the only tv that has media fed to it, so it seems a waste to go NAS....or should I consider going NAS?? Not the thread for it really :o

    1x NVME (OS)
    1x SATA SSD (Games)
    1x HDD (Stuff)

on the workstation. 8x HDD in the NAS for more stuff.

That is a damn nice build!

How are the temps with everything that dense?

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,309 ✭✭✭✭wotzgoingon

Nice build but I don't know if I would trust my reservoir like that.

Thanks :) CPU or GPU haven't exceeded 60c as yet in benchmarks or playing games.

Had thought long and hard about it, no other way to have the res and keep the 2 SSD holders usable. I'm OK with it, though (apart from the crookedness!)

What case is that assembled in benny - looks like it could be very neat and tidy when closed up.

(Not that it's not neat and tidy when it's open too of course!)

It's an NZXT Manta. Excellent little case!

New monitor stand. Unfortunately I don't have a solid table top and I've seen IKEA Linmmon desks break on Reddit. So I added a small piece of wood in the mean time to spread the weight. The original stand took up over 24cm.
