So you did buy that WC gear. Douche, I was looking for those GTs. :P

Looks nice. Bear in mind though that because all your rad are internal, you're going to need more airflow in their versus an external setup, or your components and rads will get pretty hot pretty quick.

In fairness with 2 360mm 60mm thick rads and a 480mm 60mm thick rad I wouldnt even need any fans to keep any config cool. I will just have low fans on just to keep a small amount of heat off them and if you see the bottom of the case there is no restriction as its straight in oneside of the case and out the other.

This is my first ever build. It's nothing special at all, (especially when compared to the other set ups here) but I thought Id post here as Im quite happy with it and I wouldnt have been able to do it without you guys on here, so thanks.
Yes I know my cable management is absolutely terrible :(.
If there is one thing I have learned, its buy a better case next time.

I picked up some bits power fittings and Tygon tubing. This is how its going so far. The Gpu's loop will be a 480mm rad at the top. Putting in a 480mm for future plans rather than needing it now.

I will use this tubing for the graphics card loop. I think it will look good with the contrast

If not will use clear tubing and this

And to NTMK, how does the H80 perform? Looking to get a cooler and torn between the H60, H80 or just the 212+.

idle temps are low 30's running prime95 at current clock is around the mid 55's in a warm room

Its loud enough with my case im going to change the fans to silent fans eventually

deceit, I'd change the outlet on the pump if I were you. With that top, you can use have two outlet choices (the one you're using, and the blanked one). It's one less ninety degree fitting in the loop, and that bit less restriction. Barely requires any re-routing of tubing too.

    Edit:

    Also, 4.0?! 5.0, or else.

Hah your right, i'm a dumb ass not to have taught of doing that and now the thing is filled :P. On the next drain i will swap it around, thanks for pointing it out :D
    What ya mean 4.0?! 5.0?

think he's talking about NTMKs build.

I keep telling him that too :D

we got it up to 4.8/9 without much effort, but 1 of the cores failed under prime iirc. was expecting that though cause we were under volting according to guides, which were using far more than we needed for other clocks. he's got a golden chip the lucky ****.

tbh though there really is no need for those clocks. you're not doing the chip any favors and games like BF3 don't give a damn anyway, which is all NTMK plays anyway.

Off topic a bit but if putting 3 6970's in a computer would it matter for bf3 whether I had a 2500k or one of the low cpu's like a g620 as im building this machine only for bf3, not many other games and my plan is to keep is extremely quite, all fans are gonna be 6db fans bar psu's one.

You want to spend over €1,000 on something mad like 3 6970s and then pair it with a low end dual core processor that costs about €80. The g620 will bottleneck the 3 6970s. Drop one of the 6970s and put the money saved towards the 2500K. Better yet, wait for the 7970s to come out.

No I was just curious, i'm picking up a 2500k tomorrow morning for a good price. I have one of the 6970's and was getting the other two for 400 from a mate when he upgrades to a 7970.

I Figured 3 6970's would be better than a 7970 by a fair bit, thats why putting 3 in. I would need a motherboard/cpu upgrade for the 3rd gpu in anyway.
Thats what I was seeing if a lower cpu would bottleneck this game as would be no point in wasting a 2500k in this rig when could have put it to better use somewhere else in my other rigs if it didnt have any fps impact here. I should really be sober trying to explain myself :P

Why don't you try it out and come back to us?

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,983 ✭✭✭Tea_Bag

i cant find any benchmarks on any athlon x2s or similar stuff, oddly, but anything recent with some L3 cache seems to do well.

    www.tomshardware.com/reviews/battlefield-3-graphics-performance,3063-13.html

MP though is more demanding than SP, obviously, so I'd only consider quad core stuff.

My g540 didnt turn up in the end, have to wait until back in work to pick it up so I'm going to try this see if makes a difference if you want?
I have the 2500k overclocked to 4.6ghz and will pair it with a 6870 and I will run one of my i7 920's at stock and pair it with a 6970 and see if there is any difference in fps in bf3.
So most likely the i7 920 and 6970 should be much better for the game.

    I'd imagine it's not.

I will try it out tonight, just have to instal bf3 on the other machine. There are two other differences in the machines but I doubt will have an affect on fps. The machine with the 2500k has a 60gb ssd as a os drive and it has 16gb ram where as the workstation only has 12gb. The game will be running on both machines on raid 0 on 2 500gb 7200rpm drives so no difference there. Below are the two rigs that will be used. I didnt want to show anymore of the pc in the little devil case until finished as its a right mess atm, its a work in progress and needs a new psu, red ram, watercooling and new gpus so still along way off being finished.

    The i5 2500k at 4.6ghz with 6870 averaged 24fps
    The i7 920 at stock with hd6970 averaged 42fps
Settings where: Everything was maxed but I put it down to a resolution of 1680*1050 to make it a bit more enjoyable to play while testing.

Edit: If anyone needs evidence I can redo the test at the weekend and make a fraps video.

Those results look right as the the 6970 is far better then the 6850.

The cpu would make very little difference imo but try turning ht off on the 920 as it can effect performance.
Bf3 doesn't need huge cpu power once the gpu isn't bottlenecked.

Have you paired the i5 with the 6970?
