Very nice. Love the case :D Was it easy to fit the H50 Cooler, or did you have to do any mods?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,259 ✭✭✭downwithpeace

Fit like a glove with the rad hoses facing the PSU, I originally had it set to push pull with the rad directly on the case and a fan outside the case and under the radiator but that stopped the lid from closing fully. There is a 240mm rad version out there and the Raven has clips for mounting it above the bottom fans if your thinking about it.

Just found this thread the other day, some really nice builds on it
    Here's my contribution!

Built this in July but gave it a clean out 2day(much needed), heres a few snaps!
Have almost the same build (same case same PSU etc) except its the Sabertooth 990FX. How do you like the H60? Is it loud at all?

also how did you mount that SSD? I did mine upside down into one of those trays..wouldnt fit otherwise.

@glynf have the same 64gb ver SSD. those things are fast  the CPU is my system bottleneck now!

The H60 is great, well worth spending the extra over an air cooler, virtually silent too!

yeah had to mount it upside down too, seems like its just the way the mounting is on the m4 drives.

I like the gauges on the case, where did you get them, thinking of something like that for my build.

I got them back in 2005 from Komplett, I don't think Cooler Master make them any more though.

Just a small change to my main rig since I last posted pics up. Also I will have this power supply next friday for it :D. The 16gb ram I took out, I put into the 690II rig so it now has 24gb ram and I will then have 4gb spare :). There will be another 8gb of gskill added to this soon also but I want to focuse on getting the second loop, gpus and psu sorted first. There are two ex360 rads in the bottom now. I reversed the res so I could have a fill port at the top of it and have the water flowing through it as I think it will look good with mayhems aurora liquid in it and its much easier to bleed this way.

    IMG_0870.jpg

    Edit:
Just made a few more changes and I taught I would share them. I put the hd6970 back into the pc and I added a 480mm rad to the top so not the rads are 480mm phoyba and 2 rx360 rads :) (total overkill).
The power supply is being replaced on friday with a 1500 watt silverstone psu also.
Also this is the coolant that will be going in one loop and the crystal version of this will be going in the other loop in the opposite direction :)

You should have a look at trying cable management and move the bottom xigmatek fan in the top pc up by the other one and put the red fan at the bottom. Both of these would look so much better with it done but otherwise good job :). Its also interesting to see an amd fx8000 series build. I'm tempted to build one and use it on linux as it would have much bigger increases over intel chips I think on Linux.

I built this just before Christmas and only getting round to putting
up pics now. Let me know what you think of it (:

6970's are closer to €300 so i doubt it's one of those, they probably meant a 6870 which goes for around €170\€180 but with a 430watt psu you'd be better going with a 6850 imo as it uses less power and only smidge slower than the 6870, not to meantion it's cheaper, here's one on dabs for just over €135 (pixmania won't load for me for some reason =/)
    http://www.dabs.ie/products/asus-ati-radeon-6850-hd-790mhz-1gb-pci-express-hdmi-779C.html?q=6850&src=16

also the 2400 is very limited for overclocking and the stock cooler should be just fine but if you want an aftermarket cooler to make the system a tad bit quieter then you don't need to spend €50 an artic cooler frerzer 7 will do just fine and it's just under €20:

You won't get a 6970 for anywhere even close to €150. You also don't need to spend €50 on a CPU cooler when you have a CPU that can't overclock. With this in mind, I shifted the budget to about €180/€20, and you could get something like this:

    Item|Price
Total build cost: €202.08 (inc delivery Free!)
    Asus GeForce GTX 560 Ti 822MHz 1GB GDDR5 PCI-Express HDMI|€183.63
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro Rev.2 CPU Cooler|€18.45

are you sure the system will run comfortably on a 450watt psu and a 560ti?
i know he's not over clocking or anything but it dosn't lave any head room for expansion like adding new hdd's he's already got 2 as it is

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,180 ✭✭✭Serephucus

It's up there at the top, but it should run fine. You're right though, there isn't a lot of expansion room. Mind you, hard drives only use about 6-7W max. They idle around 2W.

  • Registered Users Posts: 111 ✭✭LittleMc95

Yeah sorry that was a mistake....I meant the 6870! Would that psu support it ok or should i get a better one? Or what about the other card mentioned there how would that be?

Btw besides the graphics card I don't intend on upgrading anything anytime soon so the extra power isn't necessary right now?

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,315 ✭✭✭deceit

    Just another quick update:
A Silverstone st1500 watt powersupply fitted, cables are the perfect length for the little devil. I will try braid the cables soon :)

    Serephucus??

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,710 ✭✭✭Monotype

The 6870 is vastly superior to the 6790. Yes, the 450W amazon would be enough for the 6870, especially considering that you won't be overclocking the CPU.

Alright thanks monotype, that all i needed to know.

  • Registered Users Posts: 111 ✭✭LittleMc95

actually monotype is there a huge difference in the 6850 and the 6870?

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,710 ✭✭✭Monotype

I wouldn't say huge now, but the 6870 is usually better value. AMD reduced the price to entice people away from nVidia's 560, so quite often you can find some 6870s below the €150, priced very close to the 6850.

If you're shopping somewhere that has a good selection (and competitive prices), the 6870 is usually worth the additional money.

The Creative T40s - they're really awesome; fantastic sound out of them, highly recommend! I wrote a review of them if u wanna read. If ur getting a standard sound card (i'm just using the one on my mobo) i really recommend getting the Creative X-30 dock; it has a crystallizer & 3D effect, makes the sound EVEN BETTER and really worth the ~€23 if you can spring for it. Shop around for both, they vary in prices a good bit :)

+1 for T40s! I bought them for my parents too, and girlfriend, and a neighbor :D

Very nice Thor. Either that gtx580 is heavy even with the support or that picture is slanted.

Cheers. It's actually a 6950 and it's heavy as hell. Triple cards are a bitch when it comes to weight and the fact they always slant.
