Reports are coming out of cracked Haswell dies at random times after delids, killing the chip. I haven't had a chance to look into it yet, but I would if I were to embark on a potentially ill-fated venture ;)

I've only found two case of it both using the vice method.
Thats a very small amount compared to the numbers killed by the razor method.

That being said it does worry me a little.I made sure not to apply to much pressure with my water-block so as not to crack the die.

The worrying thing is that both those reported instances died at random times. The die cracked on power down on one, and during stress testing on the other.

Intel's naming schemes really piss me off at times.

    4570: 4 cores, 4 threads, 84W
    4570S: 4 cores, 4 threads, 65W
    4570T: 2 cores, 4 threads, 35W

That T should be an i3, and that S just confuses everything.

Very nice machine though. Silence is golden. :)

Was reading up on that myself last night. Apparently Intel base the i3,i5,i7 thing not on number of cores or HT but on performance per watt of TDP. So a highly clocked i3 with a low TDP puts it in the i5 performance per watt league.
I assume this means the i5 4570T's are effectively 'Golden' i3's.

I'm not saying a agree with that way of naming things because tbh I just think it confuses the customer. That said, I picked the chip with the knowledge that it was really just a great i3.

It did feel strange paying as much for a dual core as a quad i5 but given that I wanted the super small form factor for this interim build no matter what, I could not ignore the fact that making that choice saved me €130 for a picopsu.

Both were 4770k's too but nobody can say for sure what caused the die to crack so far.

It could be anything from the shock of the hammer causing micro fractures so it worked for a few weeks until it cracked.
It could be to much pressure on the die with none of the silicone/adhesive left to "absorb" the force of the IHS/cooler.

Only time will tell but hopefully no more will crack.
I'd hate it to be a fault in the manufacturing process but probably very unlikely.

Just added most of the new fittings to my loop and redid the layout. I now has the front drive bay res connected and connected to a fill port on the case to make filling the machine easier.
After seeing so many people picking up Gtx 780's i'm so tempted to replace my cards with a set of them but I really should wait to see what the 9000 series from amd is like first and see if that will bring prices down.

All these are before I filled the loop. As soon as I pick up two ram blocks and bitspower extensions I have more 90deg fittings ready to make the loop look nicer.

Very nice. Hard to make out but it looks like there's a lot of air bubbles in the loop.

I wonder if the second rad has any effect on temps.

Theres three rads in it and yea I was only bleeding the loop at that time :).

I have so many rads in it as I want to be able to keep the fans running at 600-700 rpm and be silent.
At the moment the typhoons are two loud at half speed so I will connect them to the fan controller when I am removing them to get the sprayed white.
I will be spraying all the inside of the case black as at the moment there is too much red in it also.

That red thing (in particular) makes my collection of second hand cast offs look pretty poor.

Surely that sort of porn is banned here?

I'd love to water cool my rig but simply don't have the money! How much would you expect to pay to WC a 3570k and two HD 7850's as a matter of interest? Entry level?

Money-performance ratio it doesn't make sense, it's more of a project/hobby thing. A custom loop will cost 3 to 400 euro total, so not really worth it for your setup.

I had thought as much. It would purely be indulgence but unfortunately one I cannot afford! Ah well, I can live and dream!

Just after setting up my new Desk and Chair. Here was me thinking a 4x2 foot desk would be too big :P
    SAM_1698_zpsde87cc80.jpg

Cable management isnt the greatest but hopefully getting a new case in the next few weeks and will do a much better job then.

Feels quite silly posting it compared to some of the top builds on here

Here is my current setup,Not finished yet but I think its coming along nicely. The 'Foam Pipe Tubes' are a kind of prototype of a custom wrist rest/wrist riser I am working on. Specs are listed below
    EVGA GTX 760 ACX SC
I5-3570K Overclocked to 4.2 GHZ with Hyper 212 Evo
    ASrock Z77 Extreme 6
    WD Caviar Black 1TB
    Samsung 120gb SSD
    EVGA Supernova 650W
    Storm Enforcer
    8GB Corsair Vengeance LP Ram

    Incase you didn't know I am a HUGE Half-Life fan (I have Gabes autograph :D )

    uPcRNwMh.jpg
    efHGfT1h.jpg
    dy00I13h.jpg

In the future the Case will be moved off the desk,it's only there because my HDMI cable isn't long enough.
    Also looking into getting a h100 :)

Decided to go down the watercooling route as a little project over my summer hols.

My case is white and I don't like black radiators so I got out my steel wool and cans of primer and white paint.

    Before,

    fcf7.jpg

    Covering up,

    After,

Have a few ultra violet tubes in the case, not sure if I'm gonna stick with 'em

    6ffw.jpg

Will post up a few pics of the water cooling set up tomorrow.

Dont think I nailed it but nothing has melted yet :pac:

And Oh ya, I was looking around the interweb for advice on cleaning fans, found loads of videos on how to disassemble the fans etc etc etc decided to go with one of these and a wee bit of Pledge. Worked eh wonders

Ive no idea exact model of your case but im sure its a Coolmaster HAF case?
I have no idea why the chasis fans have such bright cables and not black ones, would look so much cleaner if the cables were black, could hide them:(
    I have a CoolerMaster case myself,HAF 912.
    Nice build though man,looks good:)

The case I am using is a CM Storm Enforcer,Sadly those red cables are the PCIE power cables from the EVGA Supernova :( Soon I will pickup some Bitfenix Black extensions :)
