How do you have so much space between your cards?

    Lots of PCIe slots

Yep, it's a 4xSLI board. First and third PCIE3.0 slots are the ones with the full 16 lanes. The spacing definitely helps with airflow and temps. I don't really see any temperature difference between the two cards at all.

Finally have my rig looking where I don't feel I need to change anything for the moment (well maybe add something to help with bleeding air from the system as its a pain)

That's pretty damn impressive. Well done. How long did it take?

Is that 2 x 290x? Have you tried overclocking them yet?

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,399 ✭✭✭dwighet

    Very sexy sir....
I will be ordering my w/c gear on Monday and if it ends up half as good as yours i will be over the moon..

    Well done..very nice indeed.

    I'm using bit fenix spectre's.
    I wish it was 2 * 290x's. Its still only 7970's.
The 290x and 4930k I have in my home are for my sisters rig i'm building.
    I will be upgrading to 2 * 290x's and a 4930k in January/February.
Hopefully the raystorm blocks will come out for them.
I may also get 780ti's depending on mantle performance.

    Edit:
Its hard to say how long it took as i've been upgrading pc's in this case for the last two years but i've had 5 or 6 different pc's in the case in that time.
It took me a few hours to do the loop though.

More photos on the flickr stream. Very proud of the cable braiding (cables got from Ensourced Custom Cables. Also proud of how the bent acyrlic HDD cover and headphone stand turned out. All fans controlled by one pwm header via 2 x Swiftech 8 way PWM controllers daisy chained.

Upgraded to 4670K setup instead of watercooling for the moment. Will do that when the shekels come in. :)

Looks fantastic. I'm jealous. Is that the power button on the front of the desk? Why no fans on the cpu cooler?

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,687 ✭✭✭Danger781

    Very nice.

I definitely want to do that in the future. Need to finish college first..

Did you build the desk yourself? Is it easy to replace components?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,737 ✭✭✭Bepolite

Exactly what I've been looking for very nice effort! Are you a joiner by trade or did you hire one - I'd be very interested in giving you/him some business.

Yup thats a power/reset button, and there's no fan simply because it doesn't need it. :) In normal use the case fans are spinning at approx 550 rpm and cpu temp doesn't go above 32C. Under stress it gets to 55-65C with fans at 900rpm, and it hasn't been stressed for long enough to need the fans at 100%.

Yes I did and it's very easy to replace the components 90% of the acyrilic is fastened using velcro..

Not a joiner nor did I hire one. ;) I wouldn't be able to do another one for a while anyways.

Your temps would be much better I'd imagine if you have fans directly on the heatsink.

It won't have the pressure to send much volume of air through otherwise.

Can someone recommend a repairs shop (Dublin) to take my rig into for a looking at? A friend did most of the building and we're not on speaking terms any more.

Hey - do you find the Tiamats a bit lacking sound wise? Any tweaks you can suggest.

    Nice work BTW.

I find them quite good, I'm using them along with an Asus Xonar D2X soundcard and have a few settings changed in the software that came with it, and those settings really helped with the sound.

Exactly my set up - they really need a good sound card.

I'm fairly sure at some point I installed some un-official drivers for the card and they made a difference. Uni-Xonar was the name of them I think. I found that enabling flex bass made a massive difference.
