Here's some pics of my PC's insides.

Note the sellotape to keep the back metal slots from falling onto the circuitry. The case is old, I bought it in 2005. :D

I got bored today so I decided I'd do some cable management and post the results!

    me setup:

    the innards:
    dsc00221le.th.jpg

    dsc00229e.th.jpg

the look is kinda ruined by the top exhaust fan cable trailing over everything. But it works.

The Megashadow is not as shiny as the flash makes it out to be in real life, kinda a black silk look. Not that heavy either but pretty big as you can see with the Game box in background.

added a second gen intel 80gb ssd - did a fresh win7 ultimate x64 install this evening.

    added 2*samsung f3 1.5tb drives - removed a 250gb ide.

cabled up the front 2 intake fans in the hdd cages.

removed the second fan from the noctua hs - wayy to fiddly to get the fan back on with the mobo in place so I gave up after about half and our of trying :(

I see a man that has good tastes hehe.

For some reason the pics have now started to change to the size I edited them to. 1 more to go, then it's bye bye scroll bar!

    Ah thats a beautiful case.

How are those xiggy 14cm fans. I was contemplating buying one, i just love the look of them. Have read good things about them too :p, rear exhaut though, ahem so i probably wont even use it, will see iwill ooh.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,027 ✭✭✭IrishGrimReaper

They are great! Look really good compared to them blue yate loons or whatever was in it before.

Was looking at buying them weeks ago, but pretty much the whole of UK went out of stock on them. Took a few weeks of waiting to get them!

Mounting them was a big hassle though, as the fan cables aren't that long so the top fan I had to use an adapter and the one I had was quite big so they're stuffed hidden in there. The fan filter barely gets in ;(

nice setup. Especially liking the ghetto mounting of the H50 and the table is just win :)

    Lovely desktop.

I dont know what to think of those cases. Really slick, but not computer-ish if you know what I mean....

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 78 ✭✭Tr1PoD

Yeah, I really just wanted something a bit different. I like the look of it and it seems to do a very decent job of keeping everything cool and blowing away any dust.

I wouldn't recommend it in general though simply because you really need to make sure that your hardware is going to fit. Luckily the 5870 just about slides in (and I think I may just squeeze a second one in later :P) but I think plenty of other cards that are a small bit taller wouldn't work. Similarly with the CPU fan, only low profile fans will fit and they are usually not much better than stock, at least the small amount currently available for the 1156 socket. I'm really impressed with the H50 though, very nice temps especially when you add a second fan to the radiator.

    Oh really ?

Ive read bad things about using push pull with the h50's. I'm going to have to give it a whirl :D

I'd hazard that's primarily because people have reversed the exhaust fan without ensuring there's adequate airflow out of the case? With the 800D you should be fine though, it has a fine big exhaust that one ;)

Not sure since I haven't seen anything bad said about this setup. One review showed a drop in temps of about 5-6C compared to using one fan. Seems to drop mine by about 3 or 4. Probably depends a great deal on the fan that you use.

  • Registered Users Posts: 837 ✭✭✭stephenmarr

@Tr1Pod what fans are you using on the h-50 im about to build my system is the standard fan adequate?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 78 ✭✭Tr1PoD

The stock fan seems to be perfectly fine. You only really need to put a second one on if you really need the extra couple of degrees to hit whatever overclock you are trying to achieve.

I'm just using the stock fan and a Akasa 120mm LED Fan that is the same specification, 1700 rpm and 59.1 cfm airflow.

    http://www.legitreviews.com/article/1025/6/

That review got a good improvement over stock using two Noctua NF-P12 120mm which are also quieter at 19.8 dBA instead of 29.8 dBA.
