Some of you may remember a post I made some months (November) ago on building a new PC. Four months later, a change of career and more changes of mind than I can count, I finally got the build together. This was my first time building a PC since about 2000 so a surprisingly large amount has changed, mostly easier, but just as finicky as before.

    The unboxing and preparing

    Motherboard, CPU and RAM installed
    OO8et8vl.jpg

Reference version GTX 970 from Overclockers.co.uk

    Aqf389nl.jpg

The first test boot was mostly a success!
    S6pecmKl.jpg

The final build with LEDs installed and fans working fully. Monitor is the Asus ROG Swift. (I may have forgotten to connect them)
    lQacNcvl.jpg

Logitech G600 to replace my old dead Razer Naga
    D8IGoNGl.jpg

She's gorgeous with the NZXT LEDs in place. Lights can be adjusted in brightness with the flick of a switch.
    TFhFTgfl.jpg

The station itself. Inner PC is my fiancees PC which we used to share, but as we both game a lot it made more sense to buy my own PC.
    3FnBjxOl.jpg

    Specs:
    Intel i5 4690k Devils Canyon
    Zotac Reference GTX 970
    8GB Kingston HyperX RAM
    Corsair H100i cooler.
    SK Hynix 256GB SSD
    Seagate 2TB HDD

The case is gorgeous and quite easy to build in, but because of the shape I would -highly- recommend getting your cables sorted out as much as possible first. Connect your cables to the ATX first and slot that in, and then put in the motherboard. Don't bother adding in the GPU until you at least have the sata cables attached to the motherboard and HDD/SSD.

Sweet build, love the way the RAM matches the mobo. And that monitor..

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,187 ✭✭✭Squaredude

Picked up one of those monitors a few weeks back. G-sync I don't know how I lived without it.

Love where they located the SSD's.

Few pics of my build as it stands! The whole thing went on hold when I lost my job :( Have my EK Rads/Blocks/SP Fans but no pump/res/fittings/tubing. Had a Noctua NH-D14 cooling the CPU @ 4.6Ghz but sold that when I picked up the EK block, thought I was close to buying everything. Also need to pick up an RGB keyboard. I have the computer just thrown where it is as the room is being done up.

    Sorry for the poor pics!

Out of interest, what's the red cable in the front panel?

    Cool graveyard.

That desk must get toasty as hell. :P

Having that heat in between your legs like that could be good for your sperm count!

Really must get around to ptting in some LEDs into my Define R4 case. Thinking about going with the NZXT Hue. I have enought room in my bays for it if I take out my media card reader which I dont use too often.

Kids mean less money to invest in the 'graveyard'.

I prefer cathodes myself, LED's tend to be more piercing light, which I'm not much of a fan of, cathodes are softer.

The red cable is actually the data cable for my Oneplus One!

I don't have a build log as it was so simple, I honestly didn't think people would be interested, but I could do up instructions if someone wants to build there own. It would be a couple of weeks though because I am swamped with work stuff.

How big is the desk? Looks to have plenty of space! Was looking at getting a large corner desk but if I could get something like yours I think I'd be happy.

My gaming/photo editing build. Not quite as fancy as the desk above but was pleased with my first build from scratch. Decided to go all out on this one but to try buy the items at the cheapest possible price I could find. 3 months of shopping around before eventually purchasing all the parts.

    All prices are in AUD.

    Setup:
    NZXT H440 Razer $200
    i7 4790k $465
Asus z97 Deluxe (without NFC & WFC) $330
    MSI GTX 970 Gaming 4GB $447
Noctua NH-D15 After market CPU cooler $108
    Corsair 750w PSU $110
    G.Skill Ripjaws x2 8gb sticks @ 1866mhz $160
    Razer blackwidow chroma $160
    Razer Naga $70
    Samsung 28" UHD monitor $512
    Samsung 850 Evo 500gb $240
    Toshiba 3TB 7200rpm HDD $106
    Win8.1 $70

    Total: $2978 AUD/ €2156.61

I've started to migrate my pc from a little devil v8 to a v10 :)
Will replace the bottom rad mounts when I speak to someone in LD and get them to sell me some new ones :).
I took the Phase change unit out as plan on using it with a bench table. Will purchase one of the ld cooling box's for it.
The dye in the res and tubing make it look horrible but hoping as I run water through it, it clears up.

I haven't decided yet, I was going to use it as a server case but I came across a more suitable case for that over the weekend so now I'm not sure :)
