No1 took pride in that ! and how exactly would u propose we sort it out ?
    enlighten me !

Well the more time that passes the more I realise the people involved seem incapable of solving the issue...Unfortunately my remedy of just acting like responsible adults and someone taking the initiative to call it a day, seems like a dream.

I'd be right in saying this is going to go on until one of "the families" has stamped total supremacy over the other? Hopefully it will happen soon because nobody seems capable of ending it without bloodshed.

If things are that bad why are ya still hanging around? You genuinely seem like you want to be away from all of it? Does your family feel the same?

what do you mean by hanging around exactly ?
my grandmother made her holy comunion in waterford weve been here for generations
theres no1 in my family that would pack up and move because of this
its not an option, you might think our ways are strange, but yours ways are strange to me too ! you seem to think it a simple thing to actually give in to someone that put a knife in your gut ! i dont know if its because im a traveller or if its just me
but i do know id rather live 1 day knowing that the person couldnt do it to another member of my family than 100 years as a coward !
and if that your appionion of being uncivilized then i guess thats what we are !

Its not just you mate there are plenty of settled people that are the same as yourself.Me included. If there was a danger to my family there would be nothing I wouldn't do to protect them .I know a few people from your community and its the same as any other, ya have quiet people, loud people , gangsters and people that want to do good for their fellow man.I think at the moment both societies are just in the middle of an adjustment peoiod, trying to get used to each other and stuff. It's unfortunate that this whole situation is going on but stuff like this happenens in every country and every community , every once in a while. There have been plenty similar and worse things happen around Ireland and the whole world over the years, unfortunately it's a part of modern society and as well I think that for most people in Waterford its the first time they've been around crap like this happening, so they are obviously going to be scared and struggle to understand why and how things like this can happen in a supposed civilised society. It will fizzle out in its own time and hopefully no more people will unjustly get hurt in it .

What I mean by hanging around is; if you're so worried about protecting your family you'd get the hell away from these people
that put a knife in your gut
so as to prevent it happening to another family member.
I'm sure the other family feel the same...but as I said each is more proud than the other so ironically you're more willing to leave another family member get hurt than your pride.

Where do you suggest they "get away" to?

Well one would consider it's easier for a traveller to "travel" than a settled person but then again alot of the travellers involved are settled so I suppose that's the end of that idea.

    http://www.rte.ie/news/2008/0909/waterford.html

Gardaí in Waterford city are investigating an incident in which a pellet gun is believed to have been used to shoot a 16-year-old girl.

The incident happened at the Bilberry halting site at around 10.40pm last night.

The 16-year-old was taken to Waterford Regional Hospital.

It is understood she was shot in the stomach area; her injuries are not life threatening. No arrests have yet been made.

Gardaí are also investigating a ramming incident involving at least three cars that took place on the Cork road just after 12.30am this morning.

Both incidents are believed to be related to an ongoing feud between two Traveller families in Waterford.

Also a couple of cars crashed in to each other at the RSC roundabout this morning. The occupants of each of the cars jumped out waving hammers at one another. That's hardly the actions of decent people is it now:mad:

I was wondering why traffic was not moving on the cork road today, that explains it all! Sooner this mess is sorted the better tbh. Action needs to be taken.

BOAP - Boards on Patrol. Only way forward I tell ya.

But ya, you should search - we discussed this (I think in this thread) about the problems and the way of addressing them. Pitty they didn't role out that new armed force in Waterford.

  • Registered Users Posts: 287 ✭✭Ri na hEireann

As chclatecream said...things are only gonna get worse before they get better....So we may aswell forget about the good name of Waterford for the time being.

It's only good if they use it.;) Examples must be made. 'I have a bigger stick than you' etc.

Just replying about the army posts.

They have no problem sending the army once or twice daily to the AIB in Lisduggan for a collection/drop off!! That bank was robbed over 10 years ago I believe and the army are still escorting to there.

Thats a bit different. I dont think it was because the bank was robbed that they have an escort - its more to do with the large sums of money in the bank and attracting people who may want to rob the bank. Iv seen Garda and Army escorts given to those vans in various banks around Ireland for years.

I think the government are trying to cut back or work out something on that. Thought I heard about it in the news a few months ago

sure they could draft in the fca or something couldnt they? even if all the trouble makers are put behind bars it just means the fighting and killing will go on behing bars.. there really is no solving the problem is there?

Every bank drop gets an army escort all over the country. It was a move brought in to try and stop the IRA and the like from getting at easy money.

The army make money on it so i doubt they want it to stop

I am well aware that various banks do get escorts when sums of money are being delivered or collected. But, no, not every bank delivery gets an escort. And I have it under good authority that the reason the AIB gets it's army and dectictive escort is because just over £1million was stolen over 10 years ago and it was never recovered.

On checking, it seems that since October 2005 the banks have been paying the state for the escort. Prior to that, the banks paid up to 40% but this was changed. An Post and the Central Bank are exempt from the new charges.

Is it legal to ride a trap and pony on a dual carriageway? If I was to do it I'm sure I would be arrested. But yet everyday I see groups of travellers riding up and down the ring road with no respect for other people. I've seen them use up the two lanes and when people beep the horns to indicate they want to get by they are told by gestures to f-off. When I see people from the travelling community on the news talking about equality and how they are second class citizens I think about simple things like this. If they respected other people and didn't run around like they owned the place and we should be afraid of them then I would feel sympathy.

Right now the only people who I feel sorry for are the settled people who live in Waterford. When I watch the news and see a traveller has been hurt I couldn't care less at the moment.
