    Maybe a stupid question but...

I'm trying to forward a port on my laptop but when I go to my Eircom Netopia 2247-02 router login page it bears no resemblance to the sample pages shown in the portforward guides. Instead of a Netopia page as I've seen on other routers it's an Eircom Broadband page with configurable router details but there's nothing about pinholes etc anywhere in the menus.
Is there anything I can do about this?

Yeah, the portforward instructions are pretty useless in that regard.

Have a read of this and see if it helps you.

I am completely shocked here. just moved from bt to eircom and my download speeds are currently 312kb/s. that is bloody fast, i never got a third of that of with BT.
guess who the happy camper is the morning. :D:D:D

Thank you very much for that.I followed the instructions and along with the help of a friend I managed to do it! :)

I read up a little and it seems you can update your routers firmware so it is the same as the firmware that you follow in most of the port forward guides but I'm glad I didn't have to bother with that in the end. :)

I spent hours the other day trying to get connectable using the portforward guide. Complete waste of time.

I had tried to do it in the past on numerous occassions and always failed.

Thanks alot for the guide. Now i am finally connectable :D

Must say...following portforwarding.com instructions for my Netgear Wireless G (UPS 10mg supplied) and I had download speeds (bittorrent) of 1.1mb straight after , thats double if not treble the speed pre portforwarding reconfig.

    Happy Days :D

I'm on Irish Broadband 3mb and healthy, heavily seeded torrents have been absolutely crawling for the last month. Is anyone else experiencing this?

Ditto. Will occassionally max out on a private tracker, but most of the time its 12-15KB/s if Im lucky

Hey guys, was hoping someone here might be able give me some insight on this. Am with IB at the moment on their 3MB package. All was working fine until recently when the connection kept dropping.

At first i thought this was just a temporary problem, however i have since realised that it is due to me running Vuze. As soon as the program starts running the connection goes. As soon as i fully exit it, the connection comes back on.

Is this something to do with settings? As it has been working 100% for at least the last 12 months. Or is it on IB's side, trying to throttle me?

    Cheers

any bittorent client will eat into your bandwidth, espically when you have a small amount, you could be connected to 100 other people at the one time, making regular surfing extremely slow,

That sounds about right assuming you mean 289KB/s

Also, regular NTL user here and it does seem as if the traffic shaping has stopped, at least outside peak hours. For the last couple of months things have been flying along :pac:

    I can second that .....

I recently downloaded a 1.3gb bittorrent and got speeds of 1.2MB , it was a Sunday afternoon .total time 44mins , thats good right ?

I am on 10mb NTL Dub .with all proper ports forwarded on my router (as soon as i done this i got a massive increase in speed ) obviously i hear you say , but it was only when i downloaded the test tool "PFPortchecker" that i found out that not all the portforwards on my router were done properly as the port checker (the web based one) can tell you your ports are forwarded when they really are not hence the orangeexclamation mark at the end of the bittorrent window telling you have network problems when i was sure i had all ports configured properly.

It was only when i used PFPortchecker that i got a true reading and bittorrent window showed that all was in order (green light)

    My 2 pence worth.

    Mind you

Anyone know how to overcome this?

www.portforward.com is very good at setting up routers. I doubt there's need for any extra than just following the instructions there. Having said that I'm currently downloading the program to see what its like.

Personally I think its a great thing that there's traffic shaping a peak hours. I just leave my computer run at night and in the morning there's all my torrents complete! Lovely :-D!!! I don't need torrents to download during the day, and I don't want to slow down others connection.

    Hi Guys

Just wondering if ye could help with a problem!

I'm with Magnet and torrents don't work, although LimeWire works fine, anytime I start a torrent with utorrent if says that there is a tracker problem(Red Icon). Although I have run tests to see if the torrents are been throttled but it said that they not!

    Any Ideas?

    It's O2

I was able to use Vuze. Still having the same error problem with utorrent and bittorrent though.

This is what happens when I try use bittorrent:

    [2009-03-24 01:19:22] IPv6 is installed
[2009-03-24 01:19:33] Error opening Windows firewall: 0x80070005 Access is denied.

Still having a major problem, download speeds of max .5kb/s. This is a joke, contacted a number of friends all having the same problem.

Afraid to call eircom incase i get their usual retarded customer service, but at this stage it is a joke.

Trying to download the patch preload for WoW and its just becoming stressful.

I only use this site for downloading
    http://www.seedmore.org/
I have 3mb with eircom and can get download speeds of well over 200KB

Proxy server for Peer to Peer? No no no, just open up the ports on your router to allow uTorrent to connect.

    http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Netopia/2247NWG-VGx/Utorrent.htm

And it is essential that you have enough seeds and peers with the tracker, 15 a piece and upwards is grand, even less from private sites.

a lot of people find that the 'official' ISP DNS servers for most ISP's can be unreliable.

personally I use the level 3 dns servers which run from the rather memorable 4.2.2.1 all the way to 4.2.2.6.

other people use opendns 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220 which have some decent tools for ad blocking and tracking the usage on your network if you register an account with them, but they also sell the information they gather from peoples surfing habits so if you like your privacy you might want to stick with level 3.

it's up to you though, but personally, I keep a file on my PC with a few alternatives in case the ones I'm using ever crap out. can't hurt to keep your choices open. ;)

if you have a router that supports opendns you can set it up to block porn and stuff if you have kids, or include ad-blocking etc. too. very handy.

i also think they have an IP updater to tell them any time your IP address changes so they can keep track of you and YOUR dns requests so your settings will work for anything connected to your home network.
