Yep. One off housing, urban sprawl, poor planning has led to more car dependency here. We're creating big problems for ourselves needlessly.

Does anyone know if there are plans to build houses in the field between Ferndale and the distributor road between the Tesco roundabout and the Old Cratloe Road.
The new road construction is well under way at the back of the Shannonvale housing estate but i see diggers clearing and leveling the space next to Ferndale which is quite a bit away from the road construction.
Yellow line is the road and the yellow circle is the area which they are clearing.

Could they be using that during construction of the road?

I doubt it. They are clearing and leveling a fairly large area. It is going on for a few months now and nothing has gone into the area outside of diggers and levelers.
The trucks and all road works appear to be an entirely separate project from what i can see.

I don't know. Any idea what the open green area to the right of the circle is? It could make a great public park for Caherdavin.

Is it not already a public park - the rear of the Community Centre?

It's more of a green than a park, from memory. Haven't been over there in quite a few years. A park akin to Shelbourne Road, O'Brien Park or People's Park, with a playground and other amenities might be ideal for there.

So you already knew what it was
    park
    pɑːk/Submit
    noun
    1.
a large public garden or area of land used for recreation.
    "a walk round the park"
synonyms: public garden, recreation ground, playground, play area, public/municipal park
"Yvonne and her friends were playing in the park"

It is an open area which exits into a number of areas. A large portion is swamp like and impassible during the winter months. They recently extended the public paths and also connected a footpath from the park to the Shannonvale estate which means those living there no longer have to cross the green area.
A lot of people walk their dogs in the area and it is also great for a shortcut in various directions when walking.
The yellow areas are swamp for much of the year and orange is the addition of a footpath linking the estate with the park.

In the longer term plan - quite a lot of houses going in that neck of the woods...

"Members will be aware that due to a change in scope as to how this project intersects with Junction 28 of the M7, it was necessary to carry out a further Project Appraisal Plan. This has now been completed and has been forwarded to the DTTAS for their review. We are awaiting their feedback which will inform the preliminary design work which will follow on immediately during the summer months."

A briefing of both the Killaloe and Shannon MD Councillors has
been arranged for 2pm on July 6th next."

Clare CoCo provide summary updates on Phase 2 Knockalisheen to Mackey Roundabout every month, in their Chief Executive Reports under the Capital Projects section.

    https://www.clarecoco.ie/your-council/about-the-council/chief-executive-reports/

The report is usually posted between the 10th and 12th of every month.

I see new fencing has been erected in the field opposite the entrance to the site for the road extension on the Old Cratloe Road. (near the Country Club). It looks like this might be the next phase to see bulldozers move into.

Who do we believe?? Seems to different information coming from Clare and Limericks local authorities. Limerick have always remained 'tight lipped'with regard to the LNDR, and as usual the people who are most affected, will be the last to know

I don't see how that differs from what Clare CC are saying. The plans have gone back to DTTAS for review. Once they're finalised they'll go on public display and when they do go to ABP anyone can object if they wish to.

Same time-frame as previously. circa 2 years to go to Bord Pleanala, another few -if it gets planning- on preparatory work and approximately 5 for road completion. So, in the best case scenario, road ready to use in about ten years time. In the event of not being allowed to build on a floodplain, tunnel conundrum, Parteen village division etc.......................then ?????????????

Clare CC, are leaving the impression that public display is sooner rather than later, maybe early Autumn

And LCCC didn't contradict that. Public displays come before the application to ABP.

Yes I'm well aware of that , but it will be sooner than LCCC are stating

Will it? The latest Clare CC update says that same as the LCCC update. Neither mentioned a date.

FYI. interesting experiment ongoing involving UL traffic management. Starting yesterday and running for a few weeks I think, Ul are releasing, 100 cars daily - the time frame and figure is unconfirmed- on to the Gillogue road [Burllington factory] to Larkin's Cross. this enables these Clare-bound cars get home much quicker. Supervised yesterday by gardai and their own personnel. The main problem lies with the old canal\Blackwater bridges. Probably an acceptance by UL that the Northern Distributor Road does not offer a solution to their traffic problems, at least for the next ten years. The amount of time within which the new roadd could be built allowing for everything going their way, planning, funding, lack of court appeals re floodplain etc. If UL were to build a bridge across the canal\blackwater linking the Gillogue road wiht their campus they could alleviate their congestion within two years. Every time I suggest same, I am told that UL cannot use the present Gillogue road. Yesterday, and this experiment proves that they can. Maybe the penny has dropped with UL. There is no need for a dual carriageway, destroying both a village and a Special Area of Conservation. use the existing infrastructure.
