Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

As I said I don't think we have decent back up for Torres. This is only going around in circles though so I'll leave it here!

Fair enough, but seeing as the transfer window hasn't opened yet, and Rafa has mentioned breaking the transfer record, I think it's safe to say, we will have somebody to fill that role.;)

    Edit: 50 posts to go.

To be honest I would rather keep Voronin and possibly bring in the likes of Dani Pacheco and Krisztian Nemeth than bring in Kevin Doyle for £7M. I just think that the youth need a chance to show what they can do, hopefully they get a few chances in preseason.

It will definitely reach 20k. You will not be the magic number Mike fo sho...

Dev has mentioned that super (and this is probably amongst the superest of them) threads do cause a strain so it may not last long past that.

If we were actually to spend that kind of money for a backup striker for torres would they not be expecting a bit of first team footy??

It would be great to have something big to announce with the 20,000th post but alas unless its to declare this thread has 20,000 posts I don't see what it could be.

Like you would not believe mate, like you would not believe. That Dub lad is the trouble maker. Sounds like a conversation for OTT for me though.

Is the topic even slightly visible from here ?

Have heard that Rafa has a real interest in Kenwyne Jones from a reasonably reliable source. Wonder if he would go for him, reckon he would be happy to play backup...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 88,972 ✭✭✭✭mike65

Jones a English and didn't get relagated, so the cost would be too much for what he'd
be asked to do. While its hard to know who the understudy role will go to I'm pretty sure it won't be another Prem player and certainly not an English one. Hence Tuncay being mentioned.

jones is from Trinidad and Tobago

    He said 'Jones a English'.
Clearly Mike is Amish and he meant that Jones was an outsider and not Amish. Whether that has a bearing on Rafas desire to sign him is another thing, but I did see on Rawk that he is rumoured to prefer Spanish and Amish players.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 88,972 ✭✭✭✭mike65

Heymon, I say 'Jones a Engish' cos he is Engish, he called Jones ainhe?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,282 ✭✭✭Glico Man

Tuncay would be a good buy and a good person to bring on in the last 10-15 minutes when the opposition have tired legs because he runs and keeps running like our own energiser bunny - Kuyt.

He would be a cheaper option than Jones as I can't see him being sold for under £10M as Spurs were after him last season and last January and failed to meet Sunderland's asking price of between 12 and 15 million.

Though as I've already stated I would prefer the young lads get a run out. Lord knows we need to see some youngsters like Pacheco, Nemeth, Bruna etc come through like Insua, Spearing, Darby and Kelly have this season gone. They may have only been cameos but its progress.

apology if this has been posted already

    wags are a menace
Javier Mascherano is set to leave Liverpool, with Barcelona preparing a £35million bid.

The Argentine, 25, has told boss Rafael Benitez he needs to leave because his wife, Fernanda, is reluctant to return to England.Sportsmail exclusively revealed earlier this month that the midfielder was unsettled but Benitez had hoped to persuade him to stay.

However, Fernanda is pregnant, has returned to South America with their daughter Iola and does not want to fly back.

Benitez is understanding but still wants at least £35m for his midfield enforcer.

Mascherano's agent, Walter Tamer, held talks on Wednesday with Barca general manager Raul Sanlehy and sporting director Txiki Begiristain, who will offer around £20m plus possibly striker Bojan Krkic.

35m is a steal,if he goes for that heads will roll

Looks like he's gonna move on if barca match what benitez is asking but I reckon it'll have to be a pretty tasty offer.

For what it's worth if they offer 35million we should let him go.

    for 35m

    I thought he'd be worth around 40-45m

out of interest would liverpool want yaya ?

I don't think you could get 40 for someone if they want to leave for personal reason, I think if barca offer 35 and he really does want to leave he will be gone, and it's pretty understandable.

Yes we would want Yaya I would doubt he would want to come though, the think with Yaya is I reckon he's a better footballer than masch, the added hieght would be handy too. Not sure he's quite as combative but would be excellent.

No player in his position is worth 40-45 mill.
Even £35 million seems insane despite how much Liverpool fans love him.

Id take Yaya. New Sissoko perhaps. Still would be a big shame for the Masch to go. But if we get either 35 Million or 20Million plus Yaya, id say it was good business.

Well he's probably the best in the world at what he does. Liverpool fan or not, you gotta admit.

I do not think that Yaya would give us what Masch does.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 54,682 ✭✭✭✭Headshot

masch is the best DM in the world so if it was FM i would pay 40m for him:)

the start of the downfall of the 1st galactico was the transfer of Makelele

    so its important :)

How much was Makelele? I rate him but that kind of fee isn't happening. I'm being realistic.

masch is 25 years old - you are not being realistic in the current market.

    masch is worth 35m+ imo

id worry for liverpool if ye dont get another good DM,the recent chelsea CL 1st leg showed what a lost masch was

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,900 ✭✭✭Eire-Dearg

Masch is definately £35m, possibly more. Best player in his position, in the world, in football's current climate. Might even fetch £40m+.

If Barca want to cut a deal for Masch I wouldn't mind taking someone like Bojan off their hands as part of it.

I'd settle with an Iniesta, or maybe a Xavi in the circumstances.
