That's it alright. Great finish Arshavin. Super pass on the break to get Ade away. 1-3. Game over.

    1-4 Brilliant Song. :)

Good solo effort from Song for 4.

Big win after a poor first half. The gap back to 5th is now 9 points. Sounds good.

Let's just hope Djourou's injury isn't bad. I was quietly confident of getting somewhere in the Champions League, but not with a 2nd/3rd string defence.

  • Users Awaiting Email Confirmation Posts: 15,001 ✭✭✭✭Pepe LeFrits

Indeed. We had better also hope that Gibbs improves fast or Clichy comes back fast.

Still, that was a great result. Arshavin is ****ing class.

Gibbs is having a mare, btw.

True, better now than midweek though.

Thats 4 assists for Fabregas in 3 games since he got back. Pretty good return.

  • Users Awaiting Email Confirmation Posts: 15,001 ✭✭✭✭Pepe LeFrits

2 goals and 7 assists in 9 games for Shavva too...

Their combination that made the Silvestre goal is the kind of thing I want to be seeing more of. Hopefully Arsene will give up on this nonsense of playing Cesc in a Gerrard/Lampard type role now.

Looking forward to MOTD and Football First later, have to say I'm getting really excited about Arshavin, very surprised at how quickly he has settled in.

Villareal's Senna out of return leg

Villarreal will be without Marcos Senna for this week's Champions League return meeting with Arsenal because of injury.

The Spain international midfielder limped out of last night's 2-0 home defeat by Malaga in the 80th minute due to a hamstring problem, leaving the Yellow Submarine with 10 players as coach Manuel Pellegrini had already made three substitutions.

It is not yet known how long Senna will be out for but, according to Villarreal's website, he will definitely miss Wednesday's Champions League quarter-final second leg at the Emirates Stadium.

Senna scored Villarreal's goal as they drew the first leg with Arsenal 1-1 at El Madrigal last week.

Not really. It's not like we're going to be at full strength either.

I think we should have enough to see off Villarreal but Chelsea are going to beat us next weekend.

Yeah but they've two midfielders good enough to make the Spanish team - Senna and Carzola. :D

We've been really unlucky with injuries this season but thank god our main midfielder is back when it counts.

Not really. We will be missing Gallas, Almunia, Djourou, Arshavin, Rosicky and most likely Clichy and Eduardo too.

was that not more to do with the fact he wants to rest RVP and Ade and had only one other fit forward in Bendtner?

secondly, judging out how quickly Arshavin burned out at the Euros, i can't see Arshavin lasting a full season in this kind of form.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,097 ✭✭✭DenMan

Villareal have two players back for Wednesday, but went down in the league again this weekend. There is a real opportunity for Arsenal to try and win the tie comfortably and prepare for the Chelsea and Liverpool ties to come.

Forgive me if I'm wrong but wasn't Arshavin playing for Zenit that season, with their league getting under way in March/April. No wonder why he got burned out, domestic games, Champions League (late 07-early 08) and preparations with the National Team (friendlies and of course the Euro's themselves).

Arshavin burned out at the Euros? Didn't he get player of the tournament?

Looks like Arsenal's next 4 games are on TV (5 if we get past Villarreal) :)

I only saw highlights of the other day - how bad was Gibbs? Hopefully just a bad day - I was fairly confident he'd do okay for these few games.

At least Villarreal seem to be weakened in attack (Santi, Cani, Fernandez) to match our defensive injuries - plus Senna being out is huge. Still a pity about Djourou though, Drogba looks annoyingly lively again so the last thing we need for next weekend is a slowish centre-half who hasn't played a lot.

Apart from his should have been sent off mishap he wasn't too bad. Ironically after that incident he started playing very well, even cleared one off teh line for us.

Senna decides to state the obvious regards Adebayor!

Also some Van Persie contract news! Probably my favourite player this season with his performances, interviews and general attitude. I think some one mentioned his form being patchy of late but for me if hes not scoring hes setting them up. A vital player for us imo!

Gotta love Wenger when he's in this kind of mood:
Speaking to Tuesday’s L’Equipe, the 59-year-old went on: “I remember winning at Chelsea this year. When I left the stadium, this bloke came to me at the end and said ‘I am an Arsenal fan, good game, but I don’t think we are going to win the league with such a team!’

“I told him: ‘You are not an Arsenal fan. You have just seen some 20-21-year-old kids in midfield beating the likes of Ballack, Lampard, Drogba and Anelka! Haven’t you got anything less negative to say?’

I agree that he's really stepped up this season but with Arshavin, Fabregas and Walcott all available, it's made me start to think that maybe the shape of the team will move away from playing Ade & RVP up top together. And we won't be able to afford two players at 80k a week each for just one position...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,828 ✭✭✭gosplan

Just got Diaby and Eduardo back so regardless of who plays tonight, we should have a well rested attack for the Chelsea match.

Ya its interesting point but i think Wenger firmly believes in his usual 4-4-2
starting formation when he has a fully fit squad at his disposal (which is hardly ever so maybe an almost fully fit squad)

At the moment the 4-5-1 approach as being getting results for us but again when Wenger has most of his attacking players to pick from i think its just more the arsenal way to go with them than having both Song and Denilson in alongside Fabregas. I really hope the squad can be kept together this summer, we really do have a very impressive squad going forward and atm theres not that many areas that need improving, allbeit a CB would be handy!

Ya exactly and hopefully we can get plenty of crosses into the box and plenty of shots on goal! Cech was all over the place last night.

Anyway first theres the small matter of Villarreal

Liverpool once, Chelsea twice and Man Utd three times in nine games. That is just savage. And then there's the possibility that we play two more games, one against Chelsea or Barca and one against Man Utd or Everton.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,170 ✭✭✭Royale with Cheese

10 points from the last 6 games guarantees 4th place, unless Arsenal get hammered a few times and Villa hammer a couple of teams themselves.

Obviously aiming for wins at home to Boro and Stoke, away to Pompey too.
