Final countdown to 2008 Irish Touring Car Series

    The final countdown to the inaugural Irish Touring Car Series is underway and this Saturday (19th July) it will kick off at the excellent Ballymoney track in Co. Antrim where a large entry of 1:10 190mm Electric Touring Car drivers from around the country are expected to compete for Round 1 honours. Three rounds of qualifying and two leg finals await competitors at the opening event which is being hosted by the experienced & very capable Ulster Model Car Club. Open to drivers of all levels, beginner to seasoned pro, below is information we hope will help you plan your day's racing and make for a more enjoyable experience for all involved -


    Where

    Hosted by the Ulster Model Car Club, the opening round of the Garmin/Sqeez sponsored Irish Touring Car Series takes place at the club's outdoor track located at the Joey Dunlop Leisure Centre in Ballymoney. Full address -

    On arrival at the Joey Dunlop Leisure Centre, competitors should turn left and drive to the rear of the main building where the track is located to the left side of the hockey pitches. Competitors should note that there is no power available trackside with most drivers bringing their own small 220V generators. Toilet facilities are available in the Leisure Centre.


    Event Schedule

    09:00 to 10:30 - Track Open for free untimed practice
    09:00 to 10:00 - Driver Sign on
    10:45 - Drivers Briefing & Drivers Group Photograph
    11:00 - Round 1 Qualifying Heats
    12:00 - Round 2 Qualifying Heats
    13:00 - Round 3 Qualifying Heats
    Followed by Lunch break and Finals


    Race Format

    The race format for the day will see each driver compete in three qualifying heats followed by 2 Leg Finals. The format for qualifying, TQ or Round by Round, will be decided on the day based on the weather conditions.


    Race Entry

    Entry to the Irish Touring Car Series is open to competitors of levels with suitable 1:10 scale 190mm Touring Cars. The entry fee for Round 1 is £6 (Sterling) and is payable on the day to the UMCC. There is no registration fee for the Irish Touring Car Series.


    Race Officials

    The following persons will be acting as race officials for Round 1 of the Irish Touring Car Series -

    Keith Dempsey - RCCAOI EP Touring Car Representative
    Martin Kenny - Ulster Model Car Club (Host Club)
    Alan Bickerstaff - Ulster Model Car Club (Host Club)


    Championship Points

    Points will be awarded for each final with the driver on the lowest points tally at the end of the two Legs declared the overall winner of the round. Each driver's best four from the six finals will count towards the overall championships standings.

    The points to be awarded per final are -

    First - 1 point
    Second - 2 points
    Third - 3 points
    Fourth - 4 points
    Fifth - 5 points
    Sixth - 6 points
    Seventh - 7 points
    Eight - 8 points
    Ninth - 9 points
    Tenth - 10 points
    and so on.....


    RCCAOI Ranking

    A reminder that as part of the ITC Series there will be a seperate ranking for competitors who are members of the Radio Controlled Car Association of Ireland (RCCAOI). RCCAOI members will be awarded points based on their finishing order in relation to other RCCAOI members competing in each respective round - i.e the highest placed RCCAOI member will be awarded one point in the RCCAOI National Ranking with the second highest placed RCCAOI member getting two points for second and so on. The purpose of this ranking is to determine the allocation of places for the 2009 European EP Touring Car Championship should any Irish drivers wish to represent Ireland at this presitigious event. Please note you do NOT have to be a member of the RCCAOI to compete in, score points or win the ITC Series.


    Key Rules

    - Motors must be 10.5 Brushless /19T Brushed
    - Batteries: 6 Cell Nimh or 7.4v Lipo (must be ROAR approved)
    - Rubber Tyres - Choice is open
    - Use of tyre additive is NOT permitted
    - Tyre Warmers may be used
    - Minimum car weight is 1500g
