Hi all, I thought everyone might like to know that the Sci-fi channel has started to show anime again. Every Monday night there's an anime movie on. Next Monday (July 21st) has Black Jack:The Movie is on.
I hope you find this helpful. :)

I never did like the sci-fi channels version of anime. They were always edited to hell.

I did however love watching series on it. Something about the adverts in between and the ads for saiko(sp?) exciting that I enjoyed.

I'm presuming it's dubbed. They used to have Evangelion on a couple of years ago and that was dubbed. I prefer watching t.v. not reading it. :)

Eva has a decent enough dub if I recall correctly. Try watching a bad dub like Gantz and tell me you would prefer to watch that than read it. Me, I just prefer the Japanese voices, they usually suit the characters better. On the other hand Hellsing is far better in English since its set in England.

    EDIT: Woop! 100 posts :D

    Anime Central looks dead atm.

It's been showing just Cowboy Beebop and Ghost in the Shell 1 and 2 [alternates] for months now.

Nostalgia, I remember when they showed Nadesico and Eva, and for a week around Halloween they showed all of the Uritsokidoji (sp..) Overfiend series.... lolz.

Black Jack is a good movie, I think I saw it first on Sci-Fi a few years ago. And Perfect Blue.

    Subs > Dubs btw..

    +9999

I just watch all my anime online so I can't be bothered with the edited and dubbed crap they put on tv.

I agree that most of the anime on tv is crap but how can anyone expect it improve any bit if they don't support the industry?
I mean, a while back A.D.V. Films cut four series' indefinitely, plus Tokyopop announced that they plan to cut their releases from 470 a year to under 240 volumes a year. I've seen all of Ouran online but that was because they don't have it released yet and I have my €50 put away already for when it's released in October.
I know buying anime is expensive but it'll stay expensive if no one supports it.

It will always stay expensive in Ireland. And Im pretty sure ADV is circling the drain. They've lost pretty much all their good titles afaik. But I agree with you about supporting these companies. i have about 60 or more anime dvds in my collection but I have far far more on my HD. I just don't have the money for it.

True enough, I have no problem supporting parts of the industry, I buy a load of Mangas, many published by Tokyopop, money isn't really a problem for me as I'm working and still live at home so I make a decent amount, it's just not logical though to chuck money at crap. If they sold some decent non crap anime in Forbidden Planet then I would pick it up, but right now the place is an overpriced house of lies.

This was way before torrenting was mainstream stuff.

But as regards today, +9999! TV Channels, even if they somehow manage to get a decent show, ruin it with shoddy voice-actors and crappy edits.

The only exception to that in my opinion was Cowboy Bebop, it sounded great dubbed.

  • Registered Users Posts: 725 ✭✭✭KingLoser

Yep, but Cowboy Bebop is an exception in a few things.

Terrible theme tunes, there's another one it avoided!

Yeah, I bought the OST, love listening to Steve Conte, and Space Lion is an amazing piece of music.

    Hell yeah!

Some anime OST's are complete gems. Don't Bother None is one of my personal faves.

FLCL OST is quite brilliant. I could listen to the Pillows for days

Love the Cowboy Bebop music and have all the albums.
Anything by Yoko Kanno is pure gold.

Also really enjoyed the Hellsing OST and the ones for Samurai Champloo.
