Smoke alarm

Hi all, My smoke alarm started to make random short beeps this morning. I have 2 of them in my house which is a relativley new build (5 years old). I know they are connected to the mains but do they also require a battery? Maybe this is the problem? Thanks

Yep. Sounds like they probably have a battery backup that has droped below the accepted level (even without being in use batteries will loose their stored energy over time).
